Air Alliance Hijacking: B737 Or A320?

Thu Oct 04, 2001 7:55 am

Just saw pictures of the supposed aircraft on the news, and it looked like an A320 more than a 737. Could just be pictures of the wrong aircraft.

Any thoughts?

Sky News and CNN are both saying boeing, so I presume 737

Alliance Air (CD) operates *old* 737-200s. It is a subsidiary of Indian Airlines (IC) and these planes were once part of the IC fleet. But now IC operates an all-Airbus fleet comprising 31 A320s and a dozen-odd older A300s, while CD runs the 732s.

In most cases CD operates between small cities and the first and last flights between metros (Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Madras and Bangalore) when demand is low. The hijacked flight CD7444 BOM-DEL was the last flight of the day.

I just finished wiring MSNBC and telling them that they spoke of a 737 tonight and showed a 757. But this was a night picture that was perhaps an Airbus. But either way it wasn't a 737 photographed.
