JAT Decides To Take A319s After All

Thu Oct 04, 2001 8:49 am

This info is from the Yugo daily "Glas Javnosti"

The first Airbuses which will be seen in Yugoslav Airlines' hangars are to arrive in late 2002, Gunther Schubert, the director of marketing for East and Central Europe announced on Tuesday.

Schubert told members of the Yugoslav press, during their visit to Airbuses' Tolouse operations, that JAT had requested to have the delivery of their aircraft delayed and that no other parts of the agreement were changed.

------------------------------------------------

If no other parts of the agreement were changed, that means it's still the 8 A319s originally ordered. Hopefully they will actually arrive on time, the delivery has been delayed over and over again. I still think they don't need the A319s, but what ever.... Unless of course they get rid of all their 737s 727s and DC-9s and have more frequency with only the A-319s. That would make sense. We will see what they do.

Any thoughts?

I can't wait to see the A319's in JAT's colors, I flew with JAT once back in 87, and I think they are a good airline. I hope they come back to JFK, so I can see them again.

The latest JAT colour scheme is good. It'll be nice to see A319's wearing it.

Would be nice to see JAT in North America again. I can remember JAT 707's at Toronto back to the late '60's.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

A positive step and I look forward to seeing one in thier colours, however my experience of flying with them on their old 727 YU-AKE years ago was less than pleasant. It was scruffy and on a flight to Titograd ate a rubber chicken roll for dinner. During the climb out of LHR my wife and I watched the empty drink cans racing each other on the floor to the back of the plane. The only commentary from the pilot was "pleepare for da ruff wedder".
I sure it's better now, I hope!

I flew with them this summer, there is a detailed trip report in the "Trip Reports" section, tell me if you think they improved. There were no rolling cans by the way.

YU-AKE is one of their last-delivered 727s, making one of the newest. None the less, it is still an old plane.

JAT, that was great trip report, I don't know what to say now. You should write a book about that experience!
