Air Canada And Qntas Agreement

Thu Oct 04, 2001 1:51 pm

Today I was out at Christchurch and saw a Air Canada 767-300er fly in and was wonder what it was doing here, but then on the radio I heard that QANTAS is using Air Canada aircraft and crew.
I was wondering what is going on and how long is this deal is for?

QF is wet leasing AC aircraft with AC crew and pilots. They are serving on trans-tasman routes to free up QF planes to go on domestic routes. QF was only allowed to use foreign planes on foreign routes. It will got for short while until more capacity is brought for DJ and until Ansett starts picking up if it will survive.

Air Canada agrees to lease aircraft and crews to Qantas. With last month's collapse of Ansett Australia, approximately 40 per cent of Australia's domestic
capacity has disappeared. In response to a request from Qantas, Air Canada has signed a lease agreement with the carrier for three Boeing 767-300 aircraft with
crews. They will operate flights between Australia and New Zealand. The total number of Air Canada crew members temporarily stationed in Auckland and
Christchurch, New Zealand is approximately 35 pilots and 125 flight attendants.
