More Sad United News...Bye Bye 747 HNL Crew Base

Fri Oct 05, 2001 9:05 am

Look for United's latest announcement to be the closing of the 747 HNL base.

Right now, the sole 747-400 HNL flight is HNL-NRT. Who knows what will happen to this route. It might become 777 service, otherwise it seems like it will be axed.

Sad times in Elk Grove.

You hear that giant sucking sound? That is the sound of 20,000 jobs going down the drain.

If the HNL-NRT can't survive atleast a 777 then I guess it's gotta go. This reminds me the time of when PA and TW slowly withdrew from the Pacific. Due to PA and TW going uder AA and UA became top dogs of the yard. I guess history will repeat itself yet again. Maybe NWA and DL will be in the top spot.

I feel sorry for HNL. First NWA announced the closure of its base there (pilot or FA or reservations, I can't remember), and now UAL. Can't be good for the Hawaiian economy.
