Sat Oct 06, 2001 1:19 am

Mine is HNL-IAH on a CO DC-10-30 on August 5, 2001. It was my last DC-10 flight and I will fondley remember it. What is your favorite/most memorable flight?

It was 22 July 1998, a flight from NY-Kennedy to Washington National. I flew on a 35 years old Delta Boeing 727-200. It was really great Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Memorable for positive reasons? Any flight that's not a standard economy sardine experience.
So happy memories of two Concorde flights, two B747 test flights, a helicopter trip and an flight in a DC-3.

Mine was on a United 737-500 from Austin to Dever back on August 5. It was my first trip on my own, and with United and on a 737. It was great the plane left Austin at 6:00am and it was still dark, it was really neat to see Austin and Dallas from above at night. I was the only person in my row!! The food was great, it was actually a hot meal and the service was even better!

Mine was YMX-PAP in 1997, it was the first time I was travelling alone and I spent most of the time in the cockpit, even for the landing

Mine was probably on board a Malaysian Airlines B744 from CDG-KUL. As we were descending towards the airport there was thick fog covering miles around the airport. So nobody on the plane knew how far the plane was from the airport or how high the plane was from the ground... all we saw out of the window was fog. All of a sudden, out of nowhere the airport appeared from the window and the left side of the plane touched the runway... then we were bouncing a bit on the runway but the plane landed safely on the runway. To me it was the most memorable flight because the final approach to the airport was just spectacular.. like a suspense movie... peace and quite and all of a sudden... erkkkk... the tyres hit the ground.... simply magnificent.

I have a tie between two flights. first off. March 25 1998, United Airlines flight 1 to Hong Kong Kai Tak from Los Angeles. for this certain approach I had a right side window seat about 5 rows infront of the wing! great view! Next flight has to be in January on a Air New Zealand 747-400 from Christchurch to Auckland on NZ 91 with a jumpseat on this flight. Winds at our take off in were amazingly strong, gusting and changing direction. The captain was holding the breaks down, spolled up the power a bit and gave max thrust really quick, the power surge threw me back into the seat, including my traveling companions seated on the lower deck. the approach into Auckland was great. very dark and gloomy afternoon arrival! had a blast watching the guys fly the 747 in some interesting conditions!

Cheers!

Most memorable? doesnt mean good for me  Smile

It was on a charter ATA flight from Toronto to Grenada... on the way down.. avionics failure.. had to dump tons of fuel and land in JFK.. Planes were changed but we stayed like 4 hours on the ground cause ground crew decided that this was not scheduled.. so after a little cursin from out dear captain.. they speed up a bit and we were on a way..

so basically we left Toronto at 9am arrived at Greanada 6:30.. wow could have gotten to england by then  Smile lol
Hey last L1011 ride for me i am sure.. it was nice..
There is something special about planes....

Mine would have to be aboard Qantas from Sydney to LA on a 744. The long hauls on the heavies, especially when you're crossing an entire ocean are great. Nevis Express aboard a Britten-Norman Islander was quite fun. I sat in front with the pilot on our flight St Kitts to Nevis.

Probably my first Virgin Atlantic flight this February. I had three seats to myself, beautiful view out of the window (a passing 747, as most people will be annoyed to hear again) and superb service and entertainment.

Second on the list would be the test flights in a Jetstream 31 at Cranfield - that unstable phugoid is just incredibly enjoyable!

Classic707, I took that exact flight on June 17. Except we were on a 733 and not a 735. Were you in first? I was in 1B. See my trip report.

hmm have a hard time deciding which is the most memorable....
on a 747 300 SIA to HKG from SIN on the way to LAX a long time ago. had a window seat on the right side and I swear I could see people eating noodles in their apartment. The plane shuddered so much so low and so slow it was great.
Then there was that flight from LAX to EWR on TWA...F class. Unfortunately whether forced us to land somewhere in the midwest. the plane then went to ST Louis and we were put on a flight to JFK. Economy class but still nice. When we landed in JFK the bus driver refused to transport us to EWR because of the question of when he would get paid or who would pay ! our bags were not in JFK of course. Got to EWR and saw our bags on the carousel turning and turning. was just glad to see them tho.

It sounds corny but its' true.

Mine was in August 1999. KLM 744 AMS-JFK. Weather during approach was terible- rain, thunderstorm and strong winds. Captain aborted touchdown twice!
It was my first time on 744!

Mine was yesterday...Thursday, October 4, 2001.

I was on Singapore Airlines Flight 36, from Amsterdam to Chicago. Our aircraft was SQ's newest 777, 9V-SVC, and it was spotless inside and out.

Our 8.5-hour journey took us over the northern tip of Scotland, over the ocean, and then over the upper reaches of Quebec and Ontario before entering the United States at the northern tip of Michigan.

The flight was memorable first because it was aboard Singapore's newest 777-200. Second, because it was only about 60% full. Third, because I had a great seat--59A (last row)--with the single seat next to me unoccupied. Next, the audio & video entertainment system was beyond belief: about twelve different movies to watch; 31 Color Gameboy games to play (my kids would have gone nuts over that!), and--best of all--interactive Trivia games throughout the flight where you went up against other passengers. I even won a round and was presented with a nice gift from the cabin crew for doing so! The movie I watched--Shrek--had me in tears I was laughing so hard. The meal service--two major meals--was superb. The flight landed on-time--TO THE MINUTE--from the arrival time 'estimated' when we left Amsterdam. Finally, the Captain executed perhaps the 'greasiest' landing I've yet experienced in 300+ commercial flights. I am still waiting to feel (or hear) the wheels touch down.

This past June I flew EWR-SJO on Continental 737. It was memorable because it was the first flight I ever took that was for business (so someone else was paying) and it was international.

Another fond memory is flying JFK-MCO on an Eastern L-1011 in summer 1982, it was my first flight ever. I remember being so scared, and now I'm a hopeless addict  Smile

In January 2000, I took a flight from MCI to SAT on a Midwest Express DC-9-30. It was a gorgeous day for flying, both at MCI and SAT. It was about 80 degrees in both cities and the skies were perfect. There was absolutely no turbulence and very few clouds. As I was sitting in my seat, drinking red wine after finishing off a delightful meal, I looked outside the window to take in the sights and I told myself that "this is the life." I do not think I have had a better flight since.

Flew CX B747-300 from NRT-HKG in 94. It turned out to be a 'ferry' flight or something.... had 24 passangers in ecomony...(and anyone knows CX).... they had 26 F/A!! It was a great....got to visit cockpit and hang out for 3 hours. But the best was sitting in jump seat as I heard through my personal set of head-phones,
"Cathay 509 Heavy maintain 6000 and 270 on the heading DIRECT CHARLIE CHARLIE, vectors for IGS 13 Approach to Kai Tak!. I may have great landings in future but I am sure I will never have any exciting landing than that afternoon as we landed behind a Cathay Tristar and were followed by a Garuda DC10, who slammed the trijet hard on touchdown.

All of them! Smile More enjoyable though when I have a window seat, which is as often as I possibly can..

Memorable moments of particular flights include flying over the snow covered Swiss Alps at dawn; seeing the sun rise over Sydney ; flying south over Bass Strait and seeing most of the northern Tasmanian coast in one glance, and breaking through cloud on a departing flight and seeing only the sun, blue sky and white cloud as far as you could see.

I think I'll have to go flying more often...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

CX777, HKG approach called your 747 in as a heavy? thought heavy was only used in the USA. I have seen some of your pics from kai tak... great shots might i add! I believe at one point awhile back I had a shot you took of a old colors cathay 747-400 wing, executing the right turn over kowloon city! very nice indeed! Did you snap any shots while approaching on the flight you mentioned? I would love to see any kai tak shots you have!

Cheers!

Hi Brian,
Yeah that was another flight from YVR that I landed in seat 65K (old colors winglet showing). I was not allowed to take any pics in my other flight but do have some from the Apt buildings. Will try to post on airliners.net soon. Take care,
Raj
