Denver's Airport

What do you think of Denver International Airport? I was there for the first time a few days ago, and I found it quite nice. It was efficiently laid out, and had much room for expansion. The United terminal was awesome. A lot like the OHare terminal, but bigger. OHare is still my favorite though.

It is a very good layout with lots of room to expand....... of course it's out in the middle of nowhere.......BTW, when I saw the tower, I thought I was back at IAH.

I like DIA. It is very nice. But sometimes i think it looks ugly from the outside.

I don't like it to much... Its to big for the individual flights to be special and to allow memorization of the schedule, but to small to have many international flights and big jets. To much grey and blue at United International Airport also...

To be quite honest. It is inefficent, ugly, and was suppose to be technologically advanced (hehehehe). The type of roof on the main ticketing builiding has flaws in it, when it rains bring your umbrella. Hail has cause holes to be put into it. Last March the airport was be renovated because of this. The annoying music in the train get really old. Also, the rental car shuttles drop you off one floor above the ticketing counters, poor planing. The baggage system was suppose to be state-of-the-art but the system failed and had to replaced by an old fashion one. Also its a pain to get to when u are coming from some ski resorts. The airports in the Southeast are some of the most efficent in the world, no traffic problems or mass confusion you get in others. For example at Orlando, You take either the tunnel or an elevator to the ticketing area to check in. Then you go into the atrium, also where the hotel is located and main screen showing all the flights. As you walk you can go in 3 different tunnels, soon to be 4 they are adding another 40 gates to make the total now 139. You then go though security and take a tram to the airside at which your flight is at. Food, Gift Shops, and other things are avaiable once you get there. Probably what is so nice is you don't have everyone going though one train to get to a terminal 4 terminals down, you just pick and chose and boom you are there.

I was there last year connecting from SFO back to Dulles. It was one of the nicest airports I had ever been to. The walls were pretty much glass, so it was great for viewing, and when I went I was connecting on a 777, so that made it even more exciting.

An airport says a lot about the city it serves. New facilities are getting more and more intricate with everyone trying to have the most 'unique' and 'state-of-the-art' building. DIA took this to the extreme and went so far as to put on that ridiculous looking peaked roof. (was it really turned into a strainer by a hail storm?). I've been to other new airports that took a practical approach to design, and they have come up with buildings far better than DIA.

At Least They Have Room To Expand

Fri Jul 09, 1999 8:20 am

I don't care for the Circus tent look of the main terminal, and I am still trying to figure out how they spanned that connecting bridge to the first concourse, which is amazing, above the planes (midsize and smaller of course).

One good thing about DEN is that outside of DFW,its really the only major airport that has room to grow. Ohare,ATL,LAX wished they had the expansion of Denver. Kudos to Denver for really thinking of the future, just wish they did not get carried away with the aesthetics.
