757 BBJ3?

Sat Oct 06, 2001 9:37 pm

Someone hinted in a topic relating to winglets on 737s that there is currenty a BBJ3, based on the 757, in development. Does anyone have any info about this? I cant seem to find much on the Boeing site (then again it doesn't even have anything about BBJ2 from whay I can find).

What about Airbus? Are they developing an A320CJ and/or an A321CJ?

Thanks

Although not called bbj3, I'd say this is a bbj based on the 757-200. Currently 4 are in use by the US goverment.

There was talk about the BBJ3 (752) and I believe Boeing is studying the possibility of developing this aircraft. I personnally would love to see it happen. However, with the economic downturn, it is unlikely that Boeing is persuing the BBJ3 at this time.

The C-32's owned by the US government are simply modified versions of the 752. They are not BBJ3's. Unfortunately. It sure would look sharp with those blended winglets.  Big thumbs up

The BBJ3 proposal was a 757-200 fuselage with -300 wing and extra fuel tanks for ultra-long range. I haven't heard anything about it recently. Most likely, the project is delayed indefinitely or shelved completely.

The 757-300 has the same wing as the -200

The BBJ3 should be the 767-200. Longer range (important for biz jets). It's a widebody too, which would be better for a biz jet than the 757

From www.boeing.com:

"Besides a lengthened fuselage, changes on the 757-300 include new tires, wheels and brakes; a tail skid; and strengthened wings and landing gear. "

"The only difference between the 757-300 and the 757-200 wing is that the former is structurally reinforced to handle the increased load. "

I suppose the BBJ3 would have needed a strengthened wing to accomodate for the extra weight in fuel. All I know is I heard that the BBJ3 was supposed to use the modified 757-300 wing.

I'm SURE the 757-300s wing is identicle to the 752s. The 753 has strengthed gear and strengthed wing box, the actually wing is the same.

Well, even if it is aerodynamically the same - a structurally strengthened wing is still a different wing. So a 757-200 probably cannot cope with the weight of the fuel needed to fly from the USA to Australia - but the 757-300 wing, with a -200 fuselage attached, can. Simple as that. Don't forget, the BBJ3 was supposed to have the longest range of any business jet around, if I remember correctly.

I was the one who brought up the BBJ3 in the other Topic.

Just to answer VirginFlyers question.
The BBJ is based on the 737-700 and the BBJ2 is based on the -800.

The BBJ3 will "most likely" use the -300s stronger wing, but it has not been decided.
