United Will Be Retiring Their 722s And 732s Soon.

Mon Oct 08, 2001 10:24 pm

I just read that due to the September 11 terrorist attacks, United will be retiring their 727-200s and 737-200s very soon. The report did not state when but it said soon.

I personally think it's about time they get rid of those birds. They should get with the new. Hopefully when air travel picks up again they can buy some newer aircrafts.

By the end of November, I heard, is when the 727 & 737-200s will be retired.

Hate to see them go, as they are awesome planes, but if it means the survival of UAL, then I'm OK with it.

They are getting replaced by the fuel efficient IAE V2500 powered Airbus A319s & A320s.

Very sad indeed, it's sad to see the 727's go. The 727's are so far the most beautiful birds in United's fleet, I'm sure that a lot of United employees are sad to see them disappear. But, as discussed, it's for United's best interest and cost cutting plan if they do that. At least now I know that, as of 2002 if I ever fly United again, I won't get a 727 regardless of when I fly, and on what routing. I won't be obsessed anymore about what aircraft type it is when booking a flight now that the 727's are leaving. I mean, I won't choose a flight with respect to the aircraft type that it is, I'll choose my flights regarding only what fits best my schedule. It's sad but it's good to know that as of 2002 there won't be 727's anymore. American is gonna retire them too, I think.
The 727's are now becoming rare, better fly on one now if you can before it's too late. Good luck in getting a 727!

Over at ABQ, the 727 routes are being replaced with A320's and A319's. I really miss seeing the UA 757's here, but of course they weren't making the money sending a 757. I will miss seeing the 727's though, but that is just what they have to do. When is Delta getting rid of it's 727's?

Delta 727s

ABQ757- The last I heard was Delta is scheduled to retire their last 727 in 2005, so you still have a chance with them. I'm not sure if that has changed, but I saw that on delta.com a few months ago.
Hope that helps!
