Sad Year So Far In Aviation...

Tue Oct 09, 2001 6:28 am

I must say that this year, in my opinion, it has been one of the saddest years in aviation. Let's begin the year, airlines were flourishing and everything looked well. The first event was the swallowing and now digestion of TWA, one of the greatest names in aviation history. Another few sad events that were meaningful parts in my love of aviation were the retirements of Iberia's DC-10's and Delta's L-1011's. I had flown on both aircraft extensively and I have grown very fond of them. The next sad event was the dismiss of Midway, a carrier that I had flown several times and had actually set up a good name for its self. Then the tragic events of September 11th, a date which will live in infamy as commercial aircraft were used as bombs and weapons of destruction. Then shortly after, the airline situation, the economic slowdown in airlines, the dismiss of many many workers, the financial collapse of Swissair and Sabena, the dismiss of KLM in Atlanta, the crash of the Tu-154 over the Black Sea and today the crash of the SAS MD-87 in Milan. Aviation has taken a large hit, but aviation needs people like us, its truest fans to support it and help it back to the levels that it once was. Let's all fly and not let the terrorists or anything prevent from doing what we love; FLY!!!

Perhaps we could celebrate the introduction of the great new TUI livery.

Or perhaps not.  Smile

I think I should have added the TUI livery on my list. What a shame that the great Britannia livery has to revert to that!

I think the introductions of Liveries we don't like and numerous crashes and resulting deaths should be discussed in different forums.

Maybe we should help airliners.net to do something to promote flying to the world.

And last year was a pretty horrible year in aviation too! It's gone for bad to worse.
