PSA Experimental Liveries

Tue Oct 09, 2001 11:02 pm

Looking through the database, I found a couple of interesting photos of PSA aircraft in unusual liveries dating from just before their takeover by US Air in 1986. I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about these liveries (who designed them, how widely were they applied) and whether there were plans to repaint the PSA fleet in these colors. Thanks for any info.

The second one was actually an experimental scheme for USAir, using the colors of PSA, Piedmont, and USAir combined.

Dunno, as sadly I failed to appreciate just what I was seeing back then, although I think your date of 1986 might be slightly off. I took the 146 pic in April 1988. I well remember seeing PSA airplanes at LAX, SAN and even PHX in early April, but by the time we went home later in the month there were hardly any airplanes left with PSA on them - they all had USAir titles. Witness the following:

PSA fuselage titles, PSA titles removed from the tail, and a US(Air) registration.

At the same time, American were flying a bunch of 737-300s and 146s around in Air Cal colors - one day, I'll upload a few of those too!

The experimental scheme seen on the 146 pic was also applied to a 733. I've seen a pic of it but I don't know if it's on anet.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
