Best Engines On The 747 Combi

Thu Oct 11, 2001 12:49 am

Hi Just curious to know what you think are the best engines fitted to the 747 combi.

Any in particular that you like the look of ?

Also, considering other factors, such as weight. Which engines are the best, to lift the heavy weight of cargo?

There is no correct answer as engine type selection is dependant on an individual airline's operating environment. Therfore, a GE powered engine may be more suitable for one company whereas a P&W or RR engine would better suit another.

Of course, there are always exceptions to this rule: Korean Air and Thai International operated 747's and Airbuses with just about every engine type possible- one can only imagine a certain amount of bribery was at play.

I would go for the P&W 4000 series engine being that it has the highest thrust over the GE CF6 & RR RB211 engines.
