Favorite Seat In A 744

Thu Oct 11, 2001 3:29 am

Flying with CX to Hong Kong in one month, economy class. I just wonder do you think there is any seat that is better in a 744 economy class, and why.

For Y class on any airliner, I will try to have a bulkhead or exir row seat.

An exit row is the best, if you can get it. Nothing beats more legroom than first class for an economy class ticket.  Smile

The window seats in rows 67, 68, and 69 on Cathay's 744s are my choice. There are only 2 seats and there is a space between the seat and the window that gives you some additional stretch room. I have flown Cathay quite a bit over the past few years, LAX-HKG and back, and always request those seats. Most of the time, no one was assigned to the aisle seat on my flights.

I don't know about Cathay, but two months ago I flew from Frankfurt to Beijing with Lufthansa sitting by a window at the very first row of economy with all the legroom- had a nice view of the wing plus SPACE. It was fantastic!
Having a place like that really lets you arrive in better shape after a long flight.

Right behind the wing. I don't find it any louder, and I like to watch the flaps, slats, spoilers and ailerons.

I suggest seats in font of the wings because of the noise generated by the engines behind them!

This summer I sat on LH Business Class row 4 : excellent!

Avoid "window" seats near the door where your feet are too near from the escape slides bowes : horrible for a long flight but I think a lot of airlines NOW avoid to put pax on such seats or get rid of those seats!

If you're traveling alone, this probably doesn't apply. However, if you're traveling with a companion, you may want to heed this advice. I flew QF from LAX-SYD in a 744 recently and sat in an exit row seat. The legroom was immense, but the armrests didn't go up. After 45 minutes of sleep I woke up aching all over because I'm kind of tall and wasn't able to lean one way or the other. On the way home we had a regular seat with less legroom, but I slept more. If you're traveling with someone you don't mind touching, you may be better off in a regular seat on an extremely long flight. Hope this helps!
