Concorde Or First Class

Fri Oct 12, 2001 12:10 am

If you were to fly between London UK and New York, would rather fly the Concorde to save a couple of hours or fly First Class and be in comfort?
I guess i would fly one leg with the Concorde and the other leg in First Class.
What would you do?

I would any time fly Y class and then spend the rest on five star hotels instead.

If time is very important, it's a no-brainer, getting to NY 1 hour and 10 minutes before you left London.
Many Concorde pax. do just that, then fly BA 1st class back, hence BA's commitment to the aircraft.
Pax. starting from JFK, can get to LHR by 17:15
If you don't really like flying much, like me, again a no-brainer, Concorde all the way. But I've only ever been in Club, never 1st class, so cannot really know what 1st class is like.
But Mach 2 at 60,000 ft is always an amazing trip, far removed from the usual flying experience, wherever on a wide-body you are seated.

I've flown Concorde over 30 times and sure, it's pretty special. It's also very cramped - you have less legroom than you do in business; and the catering also is to J class standards (though the wines are superb). If you want the luxury and cosseting, you fly F (BA); if you need speed and or want the thrill of flying supersonic, then you go R.

I would fly the first class. I would only fly the concorde in emergancy when there is little time. Like twice when we try to catch the cruise in the Carribean via New York but got hold back in London because of the fog. But yes, once in a while i would like to fly the concorde just for fun!  Smile

That's a really hard question. Two of the things on my "to do" list for aviation are to fly the Concorde and to fly first class, especially on the 747. I know for sure that I would fly the Concorde one way. I would probably fly the Concorde the other way also because I would probably get another chance to fly first class at least once in my life.

I'd fly the Concorde for once, than First forever!
Afterall, I pay the fare is because I (Just I) want fantastic service, legroom, comfort and safety.Concorde is safe too, but it's too expensive just to buy the time.Afterall, I've got plenty of time!

Best Regards

At the moment for business purposes if I had to make the choice I would go Concorde to the USA to maximize my available time there + fly back First or Club (with the current flatbed Business Class seats I really don't see the point of forking out an extra couple of thousand £££ to get that little bit extra privacy. BA Club World has excellent! service).

Once my girlfriend relocates over here, we get married and start having kids, I would probably go Concorde both ways, so I could maximize my available time for business, as well as get that extra bit of time in with my family. Yes, it sounds expensive to pay al that money for a few extra hours, but when you run your own company and you work 90-100hrs/wk, a few hours of extra leisure time means a lot!!!

I would take F class : superb confort for less money. And don't forget, those extra few hours on a plane are great to concentrate on work, without getting phone calls all the time.

I would rather be flying...

Concorde.... Less chances to fly supersonic, and besides, First is not that much diffrent from the newer biz, introduced on carriers like BA and CX.

I would fly Concorde - I have tried BA 1st a few times and whilst its very nice especially on the long haul flights I have tried it on (London - jo'burg and London - Tokyo and return). The New York flight is too short to get any real sleep on the plane ( or it is for me anyway)so the benefit of 1st isnt that great !!

On night flights: always first, as you have a real bed, so flight time doesn't matter
During day: Concorde But: If you are 6''2 like myself, consider First as well. Concorde is incredibly tight, no legroom, and, it has already been said, there is only one-class configuration on Concorde (BA and AF both). If you have to do business in NY: Concorde only if you don't have to walk far from the plane to the taxi.
I know it's only VfB but I like it!
