Future Boeing Planes

Fri Oct 12, 2001 2:58 am

Which planes do you see in the future. Here are some possibilities to choose from:

Also, is there any possibility for a new trijet, or are they a soon-to be extinct species? (Except for freighters)

From what I've heard, the 737 will have a new name, as I don't think they're gonna have a -1000 seires..

Lets do some sexy math. We add you, subtract your clothes, divide your legs and multiply

My predictions:

717-100/300 - The 717 series will be shut down soon
737-1000 - There is only so much mileage you can put in a old design. Boeing needs a new narrowbody.
747-500/600 - Aint gonna happen, Boeing ceded that market to the A380.
757-100/400 - See below
767-100/400 - Any future 757/767 upgrades won't happen. The Sonic cruiser comes in here instead.
777-100/400 - Not much point in a 100, and the a 400 seems unlikely due to the extreme length it would have.

Why don't they call a new narrowbody the Boeing B320 Series? That'd mess with the A vs B folks in here!!!

 Big thumbs up

TransSwede: So you're saying Boeing's future simply consists of a new narrowbody and the sonic cruiser?  Wink/being sarcastic

Milldoh, no I'm not saying that at all.

I'm just saying that those two projects ought to be Boeings next projects. The 777 is pretty much new, and there does not seem to be a huge market for a super-jumbo.

Thus a next-gen narrowbody and small widebody (sonic cruiser) design is needed most.

My opinion of course...  Smile

i never realized that A vs B standed for something...

what happens after the 787 (which should be what will be the 73J) and the 797 (sonic cruiser)? 808's?

Unfortunately I fear that there won't be any trijet any more  Sad because of the maintenance difficulties envolved. I hope the 717 will be sold well and upgraded to a real familly, why not with a 717-400 which will permit boeing to get rid of the whole 737 familly ; I think the MD-90 is such a great plane!!! So Boeing won't need any 737-1000 anymore!!!  Big grin

Concerning the Sonic Cruiser, I fear this was only a false alert to counter the A380 and that it will never fly because of much too high operational costs due to enormous fuel consumption for too few pax.

I think that Boeing must launch an entirely new generation of narrow bodies as opposed to a a 4th generation of B737s or it will fall further behind Airbus

There most likely will be 757NG and 767NG developed. However, it will be strictly for domestic routes where they Sonic Criuser will not be feasible.

Don't rule out the 747X just yet.
