South America And South Africa Routes?

Fri Oct 12, 2001 8:23 am

What is the flight path like for a flight from southern South America to Europe? Do the aircraft fly over the Atlantic to Africa and up the coast to Europe? Northern South America to Europe? Chile to Europe? MEX to Europe? What about flights to and from South Africa to and form the US? What is the flight path like for those flights?

I know MEX to Europe fly along the US eastern seabord and then cross over the north Atlantic, just like any US-Europe flight. I don't know about the rest of your questions.

Hi:

I know that the routes from South America (Chile and Argentina) are via the Brazilian seabord, then continue over the Atlantic and the West African coast and finally arrive to Europe.

Flights that depart from Chile, Argentina, Uruguay,Paraguay and Brazil go through the Atlantic Brazilian Coast heading north, and once they are over Recife(right in the corner), they turn heading to Sal and then to the Canary Islands (if they are heading to the UK,France, Portugal or Spain) and they go through Algeria and Tunis if they are going to Italy or Switzerland.

On flights from Chicago/NYC to Brazil, they fly over Florida, the bahamas, a bunch of carribean islands including haiti, and trinidad, over venezuela, over the amazon, and then into southern Brazil.

Aeroflot's flight from Buenos Aires to Moscow goes over Western Africa as well. I know when they flew the IL-86s on that route they used to make a stop at Dakar, I'm not sure if this is still being done with the IL-96s.
