Cancelled/delayed 777s

Fri Oct 12, 2001 10:05 pm

Varig might delay the delivery of two 777s to be going to Brazil these weeks.
Alitalia is thinking of delaying (or even cancelling) its aquisition of 777-200s scheduled for next year.
In another topic 4 brandnew 777s are apparently not wanted by UA.
What about all the 777s that are to be delivered to BA, AA and others in near future? I expect some of them might be parked in Marana or Mojave.

BA have one more 777 which, if it isn't already delivered, is about to be. Then they have no more on 777s order. In fact, after this last 777, BA have no outstanding orders with Boeing whatsoever.

Strange that AZ wants to delay or cancell the 777 delivery date from the fact they have already started to pay for them and in a press realased they told they need as soon as possible their new B772s in order to put off the fleet the B742s and part of the MDD-11. They couldn't serve Japon, Argentina and part of the USA network with only B763.(these are the most profitable markets of their network and they survived to the cutting)

The AZ rumour comes from the new issue of "World airline fleets news", usually well informed.

Someone on the forum recently claimed that Delta would defer delivery of its single 777 to be delivered next year. I don't know whether that is true or not.

Andy,

How times change eh, from being one of Boeing's best customers to nothing, and being a non-Airbus operator (apart from the BR 320s) to one of their biggest.

Funny world isn't it.

AZ absolutely needs 772s!!!!
Its fleet is so old and the long range fleet has only some 742 (ready to be gone....), some MD11s and some 767!!!!

I think this crisis period will be short and in a few months the number of passengers will raise, so AZ NEEDS those birds!!!!!
