Yes, this scares! In January 99 I was coming from Lisbon to São Paulo, and some 4 hours before landing, while crossing the Equator, still over the Atlantic, the TAP A340-300 CS-TOD came down really carelly!
Then, I notice three followed cockpit-cabin sound signals for three times (a "tam-tam-tam" x3) , such thing I'd never heard before, and crew member going to the galleys (or cockpit?). The signals and the F/A movement were really strange! I think we crossed four airpokets in some two minutes. And, I also noticed than the plane, after each altitude loss, tried to climb again, which also scared me once it seemed that the current altitude wasn't safe.
There weren't major panic or injureds because it was 3am inside the plane, 2am in São Paulo' and 6am in Lisbon' time, the movie (Truman's Show by the way) had already finished and almost everybody was sleeping.
