Airbus Stops A380 Development?

Wed Oct 17, 2001 3:46 am

Kanaal Z, Belgian business television just announced that Airbus has stopped the development of "its newest type of a/c". No further info was given but could this be the A380 ?

Has anyone else heard about this ?

Recently the A380 program was the only Airbus Industrie programme to completely escape an investment freeze. I think the news piece was referring to some postponement of A318.

You have misread it, SNA330.
It did not say 'Airbus', but 'Boeing'.
They are of course talking here about the B777-200LR.

The A318, A345 and A346 have already been built. The 772LR has not.

As for the A380 . Can't say.

Doubt it. Airbus and other companies around the world have spent more than 1.5 Billion dollars!!!  Wow! researching the Airbus A380, and there are over 65 orders for the aircraft.

I know for a fact that FedEx still wants the A-380, in fact, we'd like it yesterday!

The A318 or A345 cancelled - hardly. As you can see by the images in this link, both prototypes are very close to completion:

The A345 looks sweeeeet!  Smile

Sabenapilot is right ! I misread it on TV. (That part of the news on Kanaal Z is sort of a 'wallstreet style' banner that runs at the bottom of the screen and shows short written news)

They indeed wrote that it's Boeing cancelling their newest jet development. Sorry for the mistake.

So if it is Boeing, does that really mean the 772LR, which is old news, or the Sonic Cruiser?
