Wed Oct 17, 2001 8:14 am

Vancouver BC (YVR) Seattle WA (SEA) AS2233 16:30 17:20 0 14:10
Seattle WA (SEA) Copenhagen (CPH) SK938 18:55 13:25+1 0
Copenhagen (CPH) Warsaw (WAW) SK2761 15:20+1 16:40+1 0

Above is the scheduale that I'll be flying, though im still not sure on the exact date. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what aircraft I will likely fly on the segments.

Also I would like to know what the chanses of being granted a cockpit visit are and whether SAS aircraft are equiped with PTV's...I belive i'll be flying in W class. THanks

Vancouver-Seattle-Copenhagen, I would assume this would be operated by the 767-300 aircraft. I dont think the A330 will have been delivered by then, so the 767-300 is more than likely.

The Copenhagen-Warsaw route is usually operated by the DC-9-41.

Enjoy your flight.

As for cockpit visits. After the September 11 attacks I really doubt you'll have much chance  Sad

The 763s may have PTVs in the first and business class, but in economy there are no PTVS. I dont think the narrowbody fleet have any PTVs at all.

The A340 will not come to SEA before the spring 2002. CPH-WAW looks like DC9-40, but SAS is flexible with their short haul equipment.
But the 767-300 is OK, I flew it myself just a week ago.

One more question, regarding seat assigments. Do I choose my seats when I go to book the flight(sometime next week) or at the airport on a first come, first serve basis??

I'd also appreciete the know what the best row to sit is on the 767-300. I want a seat ahead of the leading edge, where I could possibly see the rotating engine fan...if thats at all possible. Here's what im talking about.

If you fly on Business Class you´ll be able to see the rotating engine fan. SAS uses the 767-300 in their so called "T" configuration to and from Seattle with rows 1 to 10 being Business Class. Row 6 or 7 would be best for views to the engines. If you fly Economy Class the rows start just on top of the wings so no chance to see the engine work from there! I would recommend row 17 (the first row in Economy Class) as it offer quite more legroom!

As for the final leg to Warsaw SAS uses 737-600 only!! The DC-9s have left that route some time ago!

Cockpit visits have been banned on all SAS flights! SAS used to fly with open cockpit doors so that anyone could have a look inside. After September 11 cockpits are closed and locked!

Enjoy your flight.

Thanks TR, but row 17 sounds like its right above the wing, so I wouldn't get a good view of the terrain...or is that not the case? Regarding cockpit visits, how about taking some pics when the plane is on the ground?

Hello again,

You´re right about row 17 which does not offer much more than a view of the wing. If you´d like a view of the ground etc you´ll need a seat in row 25 to 39 which are all aft the wing.

You should not expect any access to the cockpit before the flight - but if you´re lucky a view after arrival in Copenhagen might be arranged. Normally the captain stand in the door to say goodbye to the disembarking passengers and that will probably be your chance!!

Enjoy and good luck
Thomas

Is there a viewing deck(or whatever you call those) at CPH? Since I'll have 2 hours to spend there I'd like to take some pics. thanks.

Hi, there are no visiting decks at CPH too bad but you
have quite a good view from inside the terminal.
I flew last year SEA-CPH with SAS in business class.
Service was excellent, for entertainment they had a
portable Sony mini tv-video that you had in your lap.In tourist they have the good old cinema style Big grin

My dad pre-booked the seats today and it seems CPH-WAW will be operated by the DC-9! I was sort of looking towords seeing the NG cockpit but now I'll get to hear those JT8D's from the inside. I'm just hoping all the window seats wont be taken when we go to pay for the tickets and reserve our seats in a week.

A most interesting trip it will be indeed, a dash 8, 767 and a DC-9! Cant wait.

BTW, is the spotting deck at WAW open?
