Hey Westjet_737,

That a/c departed YYT this morning around 9:35am. I saw it while I was pulling up for work. It was just starting its takeoff roll. I'm not too sure of the flight number because they have changed this week, but it used to be flt 107 that went from YYT-YYZ-YYC-YVR.
It looked nice. I did'nt get to see it close-up, but it looked alright.
Hope to see it again soon.

I was lucky enough to see the two of them at YYZ on Saturday afternoon, I saw one parked over near 58, and the other was moved way towards 70 something near T1.

I at first disliked the scheme, but now that I saw it, its not half bad.

I was talking to a flight attendant that day as well, he was lucky enough (as he said) to ride it down to Washington on Friday.
He mentioned it was not fitted with the new interiors, still the old rubby dark blue CP seats, including business class and he said the galley was simple and worn.

So I assume they are still using them on mainline, till startup.

Any one See the United 747-400 at all on the 16th, other then me?

I was holding short for depature and I looked out to see what i was holding short for and I see this 744 turn final at like 50* bank at about 2 miles final. It landed and i asked ATC what was it doing here and he quickly said
"katana papa mike foxtrot, it was a medical emerency, taxi to position runway 34 but move up so i can place a a320 behind ya"

At about 1 1/2 hours later I was landing on 25 and saw it holding short of 16 and after i was cleared to land i hear "United 931 Heavy, Taxi to postion 34"
As i landed and exited i started taxing south and the 744 started to roll and rotated and pretty much flew right over us... It was sweet.

Anyone have any details on it?

I was at YUL when Tango came in - completely caught me off guard and surprised the heck out of me. It was a good surprise though. One of those moments when I actually did have my camera and enough film for a change!!!  Smile When that A320 came in there was no doubt about it. The Tango look is very distinctive - but it's still a bit too white (would be nice to see some purple on the engines...)

Otherwise, compared to the AC tail colour scheme I like Tango better.

I missed both planes  Sad
VonRichoften had told me about his trip to YYC that day and he was Lucky enough that he took some shots of the 744 that came in on the 34.
What time did it come in anyways??
I heard it left liek at 17:15 of yesterday..

It was LHR to SFO ..
Also today this mornign a Boeing 737-800 came in.
Miami Air it was, probably here to drop off the Florida Panthers, but I might go out and shoot a roll of this one.. Unless if it left..which would stink too.

I have to say I missed the UAL 744 yesterday. But did any of you see the C17 parked at the terminal? It was right next to the L1011.

I did see the AC Tango landing on 28 last night at around 6:30 or so, looks good if you ask me.  Smile

Hey WJV04 do you fly out of Calgary Flight? I'm just working on my instructor rating there right now.

I'm sure I've seen you around Calgary flight before Shane. I've been there since last February 2000. Geoff is a good instructor, although I have never had the chance to fly with him.

I love your idea of the spotters club for YYC. I know Bo and Chris will like it as well, we've hit up the spot for a day of spotting once. A good time! Keep me posted.

I must admit that I am very unimpressed with the livery and the name. There must be a meaning to Tango in Canada that I am not aware of. This ranks along with buzz as a bad name IMO.

Twaneedsnohelp - Tango is "hubbed" in Toronto. Most all of it's flights originate there.

The Calgary spotter idea is a great one! You should look into something similar to what Matt Lee has with the Winnipeg aviation forum.

Hey all,

This is probably the highest concentration of YYC A.net members I've ever seen. Yeah I got a few shots of the UA 744 landing, pretty sweet. I also got a shot of WJV04 taxiing into position and a shot just as he started throttle up. Shane and I have already talked about the spotters club. I'm in for sure.

Also I just got a part-time job at "Just Plane Fun" at the airport. So if anybody wants to buy any Herpa or Dragon wings come check it out and make sure you say my name (Kris).

C172Akula, I'm the Kris that was with you and Bo that day in July, just incase you didn't know.

Hey Aaron,

So are you going to be an instructor at Calgary Flight when you get your rating? If so then you'll be seeing alot of me in the future.

Has anybody here been to the Westjet store? I went there for the first time yesterday. They have some really nice stuff. I bought a white golf shirt with the Westjet logo embroidered on it. Prices aren't bad too!
It's located at the old Westjet office on the main floor, you kinda have to look for it and I'm not sure what the hours are, it's definatley worth checking out!

Kris

I think they are the WJ offices near the aerospace museum. Please correct me if I am wrong though.

It also seems to me that they are doing some work on the museum. What are they doing? (Last time I was by the "Air Museum" name was down.)

Where do you guys spot most of the time? I spot down near the Air BC cargo building if I get a ride or take the bus, and by the mohawk if I ride my bike.

Chris.

The air Museum is undergoign some expansions,, They are supposed to over the years to build a big ass extension to the existing building.. that means that the Planes like that Viking, the LAncaster and that Goofy helicopter will all be under a roof.. And they will put fresh paint on that disgusting building!!

yah we spot by the Cargo buildings liek what WJV04 had said and at times we spot by the fire station as well to get some 28 and Foxtrot actions.  Smile

I dunno if anyone mentioned this already but Tango is like a military slang word for Terrorist Big grin. IE "TANGO, DOWN" in any Tom Clancy book or something. Not exactly the best name for an airline, especially in these times. Other than that I like the scheme  Smile.

I like to spot by Shell/Piedmont Hawthorne, 28's picnic area (near westjet), the lot at the end of 34 near McKignht, near Dyanmic Flight on the East side of 34, the new Purolator building on Aero drive south of Runway 10 also by the Staples warehouse in that area.

Sounds like this whole thing is progressing quite nicely. It would be great to get the whole group out some time. As for me most of my spotting takes place in the usual spots, on Sept.11 I went to the Cargo buildings because security wouldn't let us go on the road in front of 16. But when 34 is active I just walk out onto the ramp from my flight center for pics as they taxi by, unfortunately that is a little tough to do now  Sad

There is a spot where you can Now see Runway 10 action.
Because of the contruction there.. I have no Idea why a Staples was built there!

There is a road that goes there, if only buses had a route there.
You get fairy close..The landings in sunsett if just amazing to watch.. and then Takeoffs.. Breathtaking. Of where you want to spot it doesnt matter. the area extends all the way from where the usual touchdown point is to where Taxiway Y or whatever intersects with Alpha so you can also grab some decent 34 stuff as well.

Looks like I saw AC Tango fly over today as I was returning home from school.. It came in at 2:05pm from the west.. so that will perhaps make things easier to spot this plane.. Must admit, it looks nice..  Smile

And I just got my pictures back from my latest trip.. Shit I hate the ILS Antenna.. that thing got in the way of 2 shots.. 1 was the Proud Wing A320 one landing on 34..  Angry

Bo, you'll have to show me that rwy 10 spot next time we go spotting.

More and more YYC spotters are turning up here in this thread....that's excellent. If any of you are spotting, watch out for a blue '91 Ford Ranger with supercab. Chances are it's me!! Don't hesitate to introduce yourself, it's always nice to meet new spotters.

For you model collectors, I'll be working from 7am-3pm this Saturday (Oct 20th) at "Just Plane Fun" at the airport. Don't hesitate to drop by, my name's Kris. I'll be working with Paul (another YYC spotter) so if you talk to him remember to mention my name. We have Westjet 737-200's in Dragon Wings on order. Also some UAL 747-400's, and many others. Chances are you'll get 10-15% off if you buy when I'm there.

My favorite spot to spot is the tower Smile, it's probably the best spot yet though it can be hard to shot because of the sun and shadows.

Today I was at the airport.. Sorry I could not visit you in the sop Kris.
I was at the Cessna center for a little talk.. After that It was spotting at 34 and off to home.

I saw a Fed Ex 310-200 Rarity!! Like my first time seeing it, and an Air Transat A310-300!! WOW  Wow!
Also my first time seeing it.. I also saw Tango for the first time and for the first time in my life I was stopped by security not once but Twice on this trip..
Man!
Oh ya That Delta connector plane which came in.. It was wearing the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics colors.. now THAT was NICE to see.. Sparkling like a girls eyes in the Bright sun as it touched down and taxied to its palce.. Too bad I was in the wrong place so I could not shoot it but to see it.

Bo

Oh ya, Westjet_737, were you able to check out that 738 that I mentioned some time ago? It did come but I wasnt sure when it left.
