United Shuttle Is Gone Forever?

Wed Oct 17, 2001 12:56 pm

Although the service is not that good, United Shuttle provides convenient as well as frequent flights between cities on the West Coast.

However, I heard that they will soon put an end to United Shuttle. Can anyone confirm this?

if United Shuttle separates from United Airlines, it will become one of the largest regional carriers in the US. That's a huge cutback.

Is this a temporary measure? Or is it permanent? Will United Shuttle resume service if the economy improves?

United Shuttle was a part of United, not an independent venture. United Shuttle will not become a separate airline.

UAL has abandoned its low fare business model. Whether it returns is left to the fates. For many people it is not worth waiting in line at the airport for 2 hours to take a flight lasting an hour and a half when that person can drive the same distance in three to four hours.

Most of the same cities pairs will still see some service, albeit fewer in frequency.

Shuttle, will be dead on October 31. Good riddance!

Most markets will continue to receive service from United Airlines or United Express (with both EMB-120s and CRJs). One of the routes United will not be keeping, Los Angeles-Medford, has already been picked up by Horizon Air which will start serving the route in mid-Nevember with CRJ-700 jets.

Also, Skywest is picking a lot of ex-Shuttle routes.

For spotters, we will finally see CRJs at LAX which is one bit of good news.

Yes the Shuttle division is going byebye.......This was already known before the 9/11 attacks. We at Skywest have known for a while. However the attacks sped up that process. Shuttle has really spread itself too thin on routes that it couldn't make a profit on. Las Vegas and SFO will be retained by United, however I don't believe they will be under the Shuttle moniker. As of early November Skywest will be operating LAX to Phoenix, Tucson, OAK, SJC, and FAT, with CRJs.....approx 30 CRJ flights a day. Finally RJs in LA. I do hope that this does aid United with some serious cost saving measures, and isn't seen as one airline against another, we all need to help eachother out. It's not just an airline issue, but an industry issue - international airline industry issue for that matter. So ya'll get out and fly! Set your @sses in a seat and enjoy the ride  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
