Most Stops On Any Direct Flight

Wed Oct 17, 2001 8:29 pm

How many stops can a flight have on route?

I remember a GA-flight of a couple of years ago, stopping at 3 different airports: Vienna, Abu Dhabi and Singapore before flying to Jakarta (and then probably onwards to Bali or so...)

Who can top this??

I know that UTA used to have flight UT562 running Paris-Bahrain-Singapore-Jakarta-Sydney-Noumea and return the same way as UT561.

Pan Am flight 1 went around the world for years. I don't remember how many stops it made, but it was quite a few.

N312RC states: Any intercontinental WN flight has just as much stops...

Wrong on 2 counts: 1) WN does not even fly to Canada or Mexico, much less intercontinental--presumably you are referring to transcontinental flights of WN in which case you are also wrong, because; 2) a look at WN's timetable shows that many of their transcon direct (or connecting) flights have no more than 1 stop; most of the rest have no more than 2 stops. WN has also progressively upgraded more of its "near transcon" flights (one example being PHX-BWI) to non-stop service.

From Western's March 1 through April 24, 1971 timetable:

Flight 411:

Minneapolis/St. Paul
Sioux Falls
Pierre
Rapid City
Casper
Salt Lake City
Las Vegas
Palm Springs
San Diego

Scheduled departure time from MSP was 9:00am, arrival at SAN 3:30pm local time, an elapsed time of of 9.5 hours from the flight's origin to final destination. If operated today, the 7 takeoffs/landings of WA411 would incur a segment tax of $22.00 on a one-way MSP-SAN ticket in addition to base fare + 7.5% U.S. excise tax + $4.50 passenger facility charge (MSP). In 1971 Western's one-way MSP-SAN coach fare was $102.00; Miltary Standby was available at $51.00, Youth Standby at $68.00.

Flight 411 was operated by 737-247 equipment in an all-coach configuration. In 1971, Western's 737s could be seen in both the "Indianhead" livery and the then-new "Flying W" livery.

Interesting Tango Bravo. Additionally...

What cost $102 in 1971 would cost $436.94 in 2000.

Equivalently, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2000 and 1971, they would cost you $102 and $23.81 respectively.

Hi,
it seems that today Brazil is still good for a couple of
multi-stop flights, e.g.
RG2241 Manaus-Rio Branco-Porto Velho-Brasilia-Goiania-Sao Paulo GRU
or
VP4375 Manaus-Rio Branco-Porto Velho-Brasilia-Belo Horizonte-Sao Paulo GRU

Varig has a lot of multiple stop flights. From Miami, Air France flies Miami-Port Au Prince-Pointe a Pitre-Guadelope-Cayenne and back using A320s and RJs.
