Southwest And Alaska Report 3Q Profits

Fri Oct 19, 2001 7:20 am

Of the major airlines, only Alaska and Southwest managed to turn a profit during the difficult 3rd quarter.

Alaska reported a net income of $25.3 million ($0.95 per share), or $7.3 million ($0.27 per share) excluding federal financial assistance following the September 11 terrorist attacks. This compares to $15.9 million ($0.60 per share) during the third quarter of last year.

Southwest reported a net income of $150.9 million ($0.19 per share). Excluding federal assistance and one-time special charges and gains, the carrier's third-quarter net income was $82.8 million ($0.10 a share). This compares to $184.3 million, ($0.23 per share) during the third quarter of last year.

Just wanted to quickly retract my statement. Alaska and Southwest reported profits, but other carriers have not reported yet.

Sorry  Embarrassment
