UA Launch Honolulu-Hong Kong

Sat Oct 20, 2001 2:38 am

From October 31, UA's HKG-SFO's one-stop flight will discontinued. However, UA will launch HKG-HNL's one-stop flight, still stops at Tokyo.

I guess it's the first quicker flight to HNL from HKG?

There is still a 4.5 hour layover in NRT.
There could even be a plane change.
So it is just a matter of having the same flight number
rather then a quicker flight...

Wow HNL-HKG. Do any other airlines currently operate that route from HNL? There is ANA and JAL, but none to HKG I think. Personally I think that CX should start service to HNL from HKG. I hope that route does good for UA. Does LAX-HKG have more pax than SFO-HKG, I would think that was a popular route. I would also think that it would be operated by a 772. I can't recall seeing a UA 744 in HNL before, but maybe it occurs sometimes.

HKG-LAX has been cancelled.
Flights to SIN and DEL are also gone.
Only NRT, ORD, SFO remains as non-stop destinations from HKG.

PA006, HKG-SIN is supposed to re-start for the spring schedule (8 April, I think).

HKG-HNl...thought it was non-stop.
That means UA is just the same as CI, Jl and other carriers.
Remember SQ operated the route non-stop to HNL...can say it was a failure.Looks like UA did a better choice, having a stop in Tokyo.

I think if they are unable to fly to HNL and pick up pax from NRT then why not fly non-stop then? They should have gained traffic rights.
And if they started the route that's non-stop to HNL, it'd not be a profit-making route, that's for sure.

I hope UA made the right decision during the hard-times for now.

UA's Tokyo-Hong Kong is the extension from Tokyo-Honolulu, so UA has the rights to pick up pax at Tokyo.

Tokyo-Honolulu used to extend to Seoul, but they now switch to Hong Kong.
