A340...A little slower than most but very comfortable, compared to others I've flown on.

Here's my trans-Atlantic history:

-> 744 BA
<- 742 BA
-> DC-10 NW
<- 742 VS
-> 742 VS
<- A333 US

My favorite was the A330-300 of US Airways because of the seats per aisle ratio and good in-flight entertainment. I would predict that my favorite would be a 767-200 because of the even fewer seats per aisle if the aircraft was also equiped with good in-flight entertainment as well.

Let me do my best to rank the options though:

1. 762
2. 763
3. A332
4. A333
5. A342
6. A343
7. A300-600R
8. 744
9. 743
10. 742
11. 777-200
12. Tristar
13. MD-11
14. DC-10
15. 757

But my real favorite is the one that gave me the lowest fare! I still wouldn't gripe about flying on any of these types across the pond.

I have done
>L-1011 DL
>777-222 UAL
<767-200 US
>767-200 US

I would rank them in this order:
1. 777-222 (great in flight entertainment, wide seats, nice plane)
2. 767-200 (Pretty good service, nicely kept plane)
3. L1011 (average I guess)
4. A310 (uncomfortalbe seats, and the pilot had the air pressure or something up a little high in the plane. My whole family got headaches once they shut the doors)

I've done:

BA 772, 744, 742, 741
VS 744, 742
AA A300

The 772 wins out over the 744 narrowly, out of the ones that I've experienced. The BA 742 was nice because I got to sit in the Upper Deck (which was economy seats on BA, when they still had them flying.) But at the same time, I don't really like the 742 as a plane. You can't beat the 772 interior- I love it. But then again, a 744 is pretty great as well? So for me it would be, from best to worst: 772, 744, 742, A300, 741. I've been on the 762 and the A340, but not transatlantic.

Regards.

here's what rode on Boeing 767 and 777.

I would ride on a MD-11, L-1011, Or 747 if I would.

My favorite is the Boeing 777, particularly the Continental and British Airways 3-3-3 seating configuration. I also like the 767-400 (Continental being the only airline to fly it across the pond) but I don't like the fact that there are no rear-lavatories on this plane. I also have had excellent flights on the A340. I am not a big fan of the 747 frankly, although I used to be. Sure it is big and such, but I think it has an unspectacular looking interior, particularly after the 777 style interior on the 777 and 767-400.

Let's not forget the Spirit of St. Louis, perhaps the greatest of all transtlantic planes  Big grin

No question in my mind- the 744. Especially the upper deck, when I have enough FF miles to afford it.

I've been on the 777 and the A343 transatlantic. I liked the B777 more, but the A343 was also very nice. My top three list would most likely be...

1. 777
2. 767( if I ever got the chance Transatlantic)
3. A340/A330

I've been on

B763 (AA, AC)
B772 (UA)
B741 (AF)
B744 (AC, BA, UA, LH)

A343 (LH, AC)

DC-10-30 (BA)

Overall, I'd rate the A340-300 top for its quite and comfortable ride and the 772 for its spacious interior, uniteds economy plus seating and ptv.

All others as follows

2. 744
3. DC-10
4. 763
5. 741

The worst trans-atlantic flights were on AA's 767s, suffering technical problems on 2 of my 4 flights (apu, aft cargo door latches) causing delays and deboarding, dirty interior, inflight entertainment (audio) not running properly on all flights.

In terms of service, I'd prefer BA. My last flight on their DC-10s was back in 1997 on reg. G-MULL, LGW-MIA.

Tom.

Well, ive been on the:

MD-11 (roundtrip)
777-200(twice R/T)
767-300ER(once R/T)

I think the 777-200 had the best economy but the MD-11 has the best Biz Elite the 767-300 is the worst plane to cross the pond in i only had 31 inches of leg room!
All in all the 772's are the best, but im going on a Air France A340 this summer so the 772 might be in a close second  Smile

It did various transatlantic flights with 747-100s, 747-200´s, 767-300s, A310-300s, MD11s, B777-200s, A340s, A330s....

The planes I liked best over the north atlantic had been 1.) A330-200
2.) A340-300
3.) B777-200
4.) A310-300

Coming from the west coast across the atlantic I've been on 742/3's (KLM and BA), A330 (Air Transat) and DC-10 (Northwest and Canadian). I would have to say my best transatlantic experiences were on the DC-10's, especially the Canadian flight where I had all five seats in the middle and could lay out and actually get some sleep!

The 707 is the best looking of all! Let's not forget it!
It also has the advantage of having a 3-3 configuration.

In what universe is the 3-3 configuration an advantage?

It is actually the worst configuration from a boarding/passenger comfort/deplaning perspective.

2-2, 2-3, 2-3-2, 2-4-2, 2-5-2, 2-4-3, 3-4-3 - You name them all - NONE of other existing configurations have as many passenger per row and aisle. And for flying intercontinental it is just the absolute pits.

I agree with Turbolet - I miss the 707 greatly. Granted, there were no PTVs, but looking out the window was sufficient in-flight entertainment for this wee lad. I flew an Air India 707 half way around the world and never lacked comfort.

KLM's DC-8-63s get honorable mention. They were clean, spacious, and very comfortable.
