737....water Ditchings

Tue Oct 23, 2001 9:26 pm

HI!
i am flying on the 9.40pm flight from LTN-BFS tonight.(easyjet 737) Last time i was on a 737 I noticed when i was looking at the safety card, that if a 737-300 ditches in the water, only the 2 small over wing exits are allowed to be used! I was quite suprised, and i doubt that 149 passengers would be able to escape from those tiny doors......no matter what the motivation!
I was wondering if these kind of evacuations are subject to the stringent tests that "normal" evacuations are (ie: the 90 second rule)???? Is there a time limit? i am sure it would take quite a while for a full load of passengers to escape!

2000first,

its true that the over wing exits are used, but also the front main cabin doors are also used in an event of an over water landing. however the rear cabin exits are the ones that cannot be used. I have been on many 737's on gulf air before they retired them and i see that on every 737.

thats what i think, i didnt work on 737's or any narrow bodied planes so i dont know much about their evacuation procedures since Emirates airlines, the airline i work on dont have narrow bodies

hi,

i´m ca of an airline flying 737-800. Not only the overwingexits can be used in case of ditching, they´ll also open the front doors. So the 90 seconds rule is going to be fulfilled.
They can´t open the aft doors, because they´ll be under the waterline if the a/c is first of all so lucky to land on water at all....
