LHR-BOS-LHR: Which Airline?

Wed Oct 24, 2001 2:06 am

Guys,

mu dad is sailing across the atlantic next october and we're gonna have a holiday in Boston b4 he leaves for Southampton, UK

I was wondering

BA say they will have 3 flights, 2 B777s and 1 B744

On the other hand, i think Virgin have only one in A 744

My prefered choice is the BA777s (check my username  Wink/being sarcastic )

What would you guys recommend

Your choices on this route are

BA 777/744
Virgin Atlantic 744
American A300-600
United 767-300

Delta flies LGW-BOS with a 767-300

BA and American both offer day flights BOS-LHR which I definitely recommend-- you avoid the night flight across the Atlantic. American's A300s have slightly better seat pitch in coach than BA and they have PVTs in coach. BA has better food and friendlier FAs. BA has PVTs in coach only on 777s .

I have not had good experiences with Delta or United. Virgin Atlantic is good but their frequent flier program is limited.

Overall the BA 777 using the day flight BOS-LHR would be my first choice.

Hope you like Boston. It's my home town and a great place!

I have flown VS BOS-LGW on their B742 but i understand now they have changed their flights to LHR and replaced the B742 with the B744. My experiences wih VS have been good........but personally i would go for BA if i were you.

Judging by your username, I think you've already made up your mind!

If your feel like a change try Virgin Atlantic's award winning service onboard the B744/A340 designated to operate this route.

Hi

Virgin are great, they have the seat back TV's, good food and you get lots of stuff free. But I agree with the last message I would fly BA.

More choice of flights, most (if not all) have seat back TV's the foods ok and you can fly on a 777.

Go with Virgin...try a new thing. BA is great, but there's just something about VS which makes it better, in my opinion. Especially now that it's a 744 on that route. Plus, Virgin could use the support.

Hi!

In August 1998 I flew from LHR to BOS with BA, the plane was a 742 "Classic" - G-BDXF - the flight was great, with excelent service, the aproach to Boston - Logan was tremendous, we landed by the sea and just when we started to descent I saw a Delta L1011 just taking of, the base leg for landing was just awsome, turning a Jumbo to finals it's amazing and it was a long right turn until we where in the final aproach. Boston airport looked nice and buzzy and the town although we didn't stop looked also nice. We have friends there so probably one day we'll return! After we landed we had a 5 hour trip to Vermont, that's a great state!!!

Virgin Atlantic is actually now going to use an A340 from LHR.

They will switch its London Heathrow to Boston service from a Boeing 747 to an Airbus A340 on 28Oct01.
Schedules as follows :
VS011 LHR 1030-1255 BOS 1925-0655 LHR VS012.

Virgin will only operate an A340 on the BOS flight as of 28th October, so NO vs 747

Interesting. Well, the A340 is a beautiful bird, especially in the VS livery. I still say go Virgin.

Two things (if they haven't been mentioned already):

Virgin's aircraft is an A340

I believe that BA has (or will) axe their daytime flight BOS-LHR, leaving them with only two flights on the route.

Guys,

if virgin use the a340, then i wont go with it, i personally cant stand airbus long-haul aircraft.

As a mix of variety, i would choose BA213 o/b and BA238 i/b

These are both 777s, as i feel a daytime/early evening arrival time is best for spotting!!

Maybe i can persuade my parents to take me to Logan and i could meet some of you guys  Wink/being sarcastic

Okay...

BA328/239 the latest departure/arrival from London to Boston has been cancelled indefinitely. This leaves two BA flights, BA212/213 (departs LHR at about 10.00) and BA214/215 (departs LHR at around 16.00). These planes currently are a 747-200/400 and 777 mix, but with the "classics" leaving the fleet, the mix is to become predominantly 777 with a few 744s thrown in for variety.

Virgin has recently, after seven years, transferred the LGW flight to LHR. As already mentioned, the flight leaves LHR sometime after 10.00 (when does anything actually leave LHR on time?!) and arrives around 13.00. The flight has changed to an A340 from a 744, but I think given the volumes traditionally carried on this route, the equipment will be back to a 747 by next Summer, and possibly even during the holidays.

American has two daily A300s. They now have a monopoly on the late evening departures to Boston, as well as the early morning day flights to Europe.

United has a daily 767-300. Don't know much about the flight, but it seems consistent with a good load factor, and usual United trans-Atlantic service.

And since it's only a few months old, I know nothing about Delta's new BOS-LGW service, other than it is operated by a 767-300ER.

You said your dad is "sailing" accross the Atlantic. Is he taking the QE2? That's a very nice, long voyage, let me tell you  Smile

You should definitely fly UA!
