Is Boeing Going To...?

Fri Oct 26, 2001 8:27 am

Is Boeing going to lose sales of 757 or 767 aircraft to airbus counterparts because companies know that hijackers knew how to fly those planes? Personally I would be more comfortable on an a320 then a 757 right now.....just wondering....

I dont think so, because the only reason they choose boeing aircraft to hijack, was because of the availability of 757/767, and like aircraft simulators to train in. I dont think their are any non-airbus/airline owened airbus simulators. They picked our 2 largest airlines, an they just don't happen to operate larger airbuses. United does operate the A-320, but it is not as big as the 757, and dosen't hold a trans-continental load of fuel.

I am not sure if they will lose sales but for certain there will be those people (you for one) that are uncomfortable or do not want to fly on a 757 or 767 at all right now....  Wink/being sarcastic

I don't think it will have a major impact if not no impact at all on Boeing .... I don't see any great reason for airlines to order Airbus a/c instead of Boeing... Are people scared of flying on MD-80s since that SAS MD-87 crashed in Italy?

Fri Oct 26, 2001 8:48 am's possible to go on simulators of all types, even airbuses when you're a member of the public.

Also, look at the simularity of the Airbus cockpits, that is even more dangerous.

I think the people that would be afraid to fly on those aircraft for that reason wouldn't even know what kind of plane they are flying on. The people who are aware as to what plane they are flying on or remember what type of planes were hijacked will mostly likely be able to deduce that they have to reason to be afraid of that, as it is possible on any time of aircraft, A & B etc.
