Best Airline To SCL

Hello,

I will be travelling shortly to Santiago, Chile via Miami. I have a few options, can you please help me in choosing and airline!

1)Aerolineas Argentinas=MIA-EZE(742)-SCL(A340)
2)Lanchile=Miami-SCL(763)
3)Avianca=Miami-Bogota(DC9/MD8X)-SCL(763)
4)American, United, Continental, USAIR, NW, Delta
(The american crew)
5)Copa=Miami-Panama-SCL(732/7)

Then I have to continue my flight to Punta Arenas & Puerto Montt:
1)Avant (732)
2)Ladeco(732/F100?)
3)LanChile(732/ It be nice to get a new A320)
4)National (?)

What are the Best Airlines for this route and why??

In Chile, United Airlines has recently been named the best airline to the United States by the Chilean Travel Association. I guess they have pretty good on Latin American service cause they are able to fill a 777 without an alliance whereas American and LanChile, who have an alliance, use 767s. Anyways, I suggest United cause you get a 777 with all its bell s and whistles! If you can't take United, I suggest Continental, which serves Santiago with a DC-10, but has been renowned for its service.
In Chile, take LanChile. I've heard many good things about them, but as to those other airlines, well most tiny carriers in Latin America are horrible.

I am interested in hearing how you plan to get from MIA to SCL using Northwest or USAirways. Neither carrier has any service to South America. Delta does not serve SCL either.

I've flown to SCL, but not from MIA (rather from EZE with BA.) It all depends on what you want from the above airlines- comfort, convenience or just an experience. If you're after experience (a "little adventure"), then scrap the american airlines (United etc.- everyone's flown on them, and nothing is new in terms of what to expect).

If I were you, I'd try out something more interesting like Avianca. You could then fly back using something else LanChile or, if you've never flown the '340, AR to EZE then on to MIA with their 742.

As for the domestic's, I ain't got a clue, as I've never flown within Chile. See what other Forum members advise.

Whilst we're on the subject, I have a query: Now that services between Santiago/Punta Arenas to Mount Pleasant (Falk.Islands) have been suspended, due to Gen.Pinochet's detension in the U.K. , why are services between Argentina and those islands (recently inaugurated by joint agreement with Argentine and U.K. authorities) being operated by LanChile? Why not use Aerolineas/Lapa etc?

And another question: Hablas espanol? Eres de Chile?

Lan Chile is the best. The airline has two daily flights from Miami, a morning one that has two stops (some days in Caracas or Bogota and also Lima) taking much longer. The evening one is nonstop. The service, punctuality, aircraft is exellent.

Aerolineas service is good, you also get the chance to fly the A340 on the escenic crossing of the Andes from Buenos Aires to Santiago.

Lan Chile will resume service to Malvinas from Santiago via Punta Arenas (B737). From October the aircraft will do an additional stop once a month in Rio Gallegos in Argentina. I think it was Lan Chile because was already serving the place and the islanders don´t want Argentineans to visit the islands, so to admit an argentine airline would be too much for them.

However, when negotiations began last year, Dinar made a number of domestic routes requests including one to extend its Buenos Aires-Comodoro Rivadavia service to Malvinas. Dinar is the fourth largest airline in Argentina (it flies DC9-30, F28 and MD82).

Im not sure what Uniteds 777 frequency to SCL is, but LanChile flies the 767-300 with 3/4 flights daily out of MIA and 2 I think out of JFK (And they are booked, I travel to Chile alot, always use Lan, and recently the flights have been tight) American flies its own equipment, although Im not sure about its frequency to SCL.

AS for the domestic route:
Lans 737-200 are very nicely kept. I flew on one
PUQ-SCL that belonged to Lufthansa before it went to Lan. Its gonna be a real shame to see those retired. As for Avant and National of Chile, does anyone have ifo on them or ever flown on them?

In your previous post, you said LanChile had 2 flights per day from Miami to Santiago -- one a morning which hops through like Colombia and stuff, and another that goes nonstop in the night... Anyway, American I believe also has 2 flights per day. The thing is, I don't understand why the gov't allowed the alliance between American and LanChile -- the only other two airlines serving U.S.-Santiago have 1 flight per day each. That means American/LanChile control ~2/3 of the market! Sheesh! But anyway, United is apparently holding its own with its 777 service, which is a good thing because it means they have a loyal customer base there.
