Cathay Suspends B777 Ridayh Virgin Launch.

Sun Oct 28, 2001 7:47 pm

Just got back today from Kuala Lumpur and noticed that CX cancelled the launch for the first madien flight to Ridayh via Bahrain.Quite sad news as i might get a chance to fly to Saudi for the first time.

No news when the route will be launched, but not in the near future.

Cheers,
Edwards

Not sure about who would use the route; I know the Saudis are so lazy they get Asians to run the place, so perhaps this is the market Cathay is contemplating?

Other than that, I can't see much point in CX flying to RUH, unless the point is filling the a/c up at BAH.

Are you sure? CX website has the Riyadh flight ETA and ETD and it shows the flight is within 30 mins late.

Hi Alain,

CX are planning to drop Istanbul, so again it will only be Dubai and Bahrain that they serve, they dropped Abu Dhabi too long time back, regarding the Saudi capital Riyadh according to a member here well connected with CX theyre focussing on transit traffic like SQ and may be looking into adding more middle eastern destinations such as Tehran which is also on their cards Smile

CX Riyadh Service Is Operational

Mon Oct 29, 2001 9:31 pm

CXFA,

I would suggest that you look at your sources very closely as your sources are no longer trustworthy...sorry! Please read the official press release from CX website! I am sure they know what they are doing!

Cathay Pacific's new service to Riyadh now in operation

Cathay Pacific Airways yesterday launched its new service between Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh. The first flight touched down in Riyadh slightly ahead of schedule at 10:53pm. The new service involved two return flights a week and utilises Cathay Pacific's Boeing 777-200 aircraft.

Riyadh is the second new destination Cathay Pacific has launched this year. In March the airline commenced services to India's capital Delhi. The airline has also announced it will begin flights to the Japanese city of Sapporo in 2 December.

The city of Riyadh is rich in history and home to many archaeological sites and museums. The attractions include the Masmak Fortress, Murraba Palace, Al-Thumairi Gate and the ruins of the old capital Dir'aiyah. As Saudi Arabia's capital, it also acts as an ideal base to visit other Saudi Arabian cities.

Cathay Pacific's Director and Chief Operating Officer Philip Chen said: "Riyadh is an important addition to Cathay Pacific's passenger network and will help further enhance Hong Kong's position as Asia's leading aviation hub."

Saudi certainly has some very interesting historical ruins and all, but I highly doubt tourism is the main attaction for Cathay; unless you are on pilgrimage, it is virtually impossible to gain an entry visa into Saudi Arabia, unless you are visiting strictly for religious, family or business reasons.

I am still wondering why they decided to pick this route up. Anyone have info/suggestions?

Regards

Lots of money in Saudi, lots of banks in HK. I bet there's loads of business traffic.

Btw Cathay are my favourite airline.

I'm getting confused between the account names of the people who freuquently post news about SQ and CX. Let's see, CXFA is actually Singapore _Air..... why do I think so? Well, in the above post, Singapore_Air apologised, and if you look back, his only other post is " Riyadh, Saudi Arabia"..... Now, why would he apologise for that?

And for Anzett and CX74b, maybe, the same situation applies, I'm not so sure of that one......

I don't get this conflict between SQ and CX. Both are real great airlines, and I think that both airlines' fans should be allowed their say, without other people's criticism....

P.S. Hey, I'm juz giving my fair opinions on this one, ok? Don't delete my username or anything......

Jesseycy,
If I say you were Anzett, what would you feel?
Please show some evidence.
But you can't as I'm Edwards, SIngapore_Air is Singapore_Air.

Usually, those who say others are the same person is actually him.
Maybe You are JALBOY, right?

Cheers,
Edwards

Well, no hard feelings, ok? But I'm defintely not Anzett, or JALboy.

But I don't get this conflict, honestly. Why is there always a rival between CX and SQ? Must it turn out so ugly? You know, deleting usernames and stuff. I understand that you will be unhappy, even mad if somebody posts bad stuff about SQ, or criticises it. But then, shouldn't all people have their own say? If you really dislike what JALboy says, why don't you just ignore his post? Is it necessary to delete them?
