From Air Transport World:
Airbus reportedly nearing Chinese order for 50 A320s
Dateline: Monday October 29, 2001
Airbus is close to securing an order from China for 50 A320s valued at as much as $2.7 billion based on list prices, according to the People's Daily.
The deal could be signed when German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder visits Beijing at the end of this month, the newspaper said. Earlier this month China bought 30 737s worth about $1.6 billion at list prices from Boeing.
Anyone care to speculate which Chinese carriers might be in need of new A320s? Airbus and Boeing must be thanking their lucky stars for the Chinese right now.
