Does anybody know which version of the A330 did US Airways order? (The A330-300 or the smaller longer range A330-200 or both?)

Nope, it's -300, according to news release, with options convertable to -200s.

I think firm orders for 7 -300's, options on more. The 300's will have 278 seats in two classes (incl. Envoy class). Engines are PW 4173.

You forgot the 6 first class "sleeper cabins" along with 26 envoy class seats.
This is NOT going to be a two-class airplane

According to the September 1998 US Airways Dividend Miles Newsletter (Preferred Member's Edition)

"Whenever there's good news, we like to share it with you as soon as possible. And if you fly transatlantic, our order of 30 Airbus A330-300s is the best kind of news for you.

The A330-300 sets an entirely new standard in international air travel for travellers seeking more comfort-even luxury. There's even a whole new class-International First Class-in addition to our widely acclaimed Envoy Class."

These aircraft should come on line late this year.

This was copyed directly out of the US Airways Dividend Miles Newsletter for September 1998. As a Dividend Miles Preferred Plus member, I get the Preferred edition of the newsletter. I am not sure if it is different in the main edition.

I hope this answers your questions-A330-300 in 3 class configuration.
