To Florida: US Airways Or Delta

Fri Nov 02, 2001 12:28 am

Which airline do you think is better to Florida from the northeast? I'm not talking Metrojet vs. DLX, I mean simply which offers better service, etc.

Are you talking in General terms, like who serves the most destinations, etc?

To clarify, I am going to fly to Miami or possible Ft. Lauderdale. I just would like opinions on overall who serves these routes better. (Exclude Metrojet and DLX).

I see you live in CT, you really should consider driving to JFK and flying jetBlue, it's so much better. However, if you are much closer to BDL. I would probably fly into FLL, the fares are usually better, and both Delta and US Airways offer direct flights from Bradly. Pick the one that is cheapest and most conveniently timed for you. Mainline service is always better than Delta Express and Metrojet (which will stop flying soon). But really there isn't much difference, a drink and a snack, either peanuts or a very plain sandwich of sorts.

Yeah, I live about an hour and fifteen minutes from JFK, but I'm closer to BDL. I tend to patronize Delta Express because they are usually cheaper. Now I've seen the fares between US Air and Delta to be comparable, so I was thinking about trying US out. Does JetBlue offer meals on their flights from JFK-FLL?
Thanks

I've flown both, and didn't find a major difference in the service. I would usually pick Delta for the frequent flier miles.

jetBlue doesn't offer meals, just a light snack, like chips and such. But they do offer 24 channels of live TV. comfy leather seats, and a friendly staff.

No, jetBlue does not offer meals, but, after 9/11, the other carriers don't either. Flying out of BDL, the only non-stop on a standard carrier (read: not Delta Express; does USAIrways fly the route non-stop?) is American's Hartford-Miami flight. Delta does have a direct flight via ATL, though.

How would you compare Delta, US Airways and American on a BDL-FLL/MIA route? Basically, which do you feel is a better airline.

On BDL-MIA, I would take American. There is only one daily, and since it is timed to connect with Latin American depatures, you get into Miami at night and leave Miami in the morning. It's great for people living in Miami, but, of course, not for those living somewhere else. American operates their newest 737-800s on the route. They are some very nice aircraft, and tons of legroom in coach (MRTC). To FLL, Delta Express offers three flights a day. All in trashy 737-200s, though it will be much cheaper. Southwest also offers a one-stop flight, I believe via BWI. USAirways, with the loss of Metrojet, no longer flies FLL-BDL.

I agree, the American flight is certainly nicer than a Delta Express flight would be. There is no sense making a stop over on Southwest.

Where is your final destination in Florida, that may make a difference on whether you should go to FLL or MIA. ?

Yeah, your final destination could make a differnce. If you going to Miami, fly into MIA or FLL. Going to Ft. Lauderdale, fly into any of the three area airports (MIA, FLL, PBI). Going to Palm Beach, fly into FLL or PBI. Also, keep in mind you can get the TriRail (South Florida commuter rail) at any airport (actually, you get on a bus that takes to the TriRail, though TriRail will be inegrated into MIA in 2006).

If you are flying to south florida take Delta. But if you want to go to MIA take Delta from JFK. Try to take UA or AA though, You can fly to FLL with Delta for sure. And US Air. Cantral fly Delta and Northern Fly Delta to Jacksonville

jetBlue of course! If you cannot take them, then take Delta Express.

I can't really say I recommend the trirail. besides the airports it stops in some pretty uncovenient and sometimes unsavory neighborhoods.

Thanks for all of your input. I usually fly Delta Express directly from BDL-FLL, but I wanted to "mix it up" so to say, in order to get some better photographic opportunities. Currently, does AA serve a meal on their BDL-MIA-BDL direct flights? Would it be comfortable to fly Delta to CVG/ATL then to Florida. Last time I checked, the prices were within about $30-40 so I am really looking for best comfort and service in coach.

Thanks
Mike

ROSWELL, no. No meals on MIA-BDL currently. Domesticly, AA only serves meals from Miami on MIA-LAX, MIA-SFO, MIA-SEA, MIA-DEN, and FLL-LAX. Though this is the norm, for now. AA and most airlines (CO is the exception and HP is going to re-start on some trans-cons soon) are only serving meals in coach on trans-continental and international flights. I do believe you will get a meal if you fly MIA-BDL in first.

I fly PHL-FLL-PHL very frequently on US, and I am not really satisfied with them...I havent flown Delta ever, so I cant comment on them, but US is not that good. On PHL-FLL-PHL, there is no IFE at all, Y food consists of one drink service and a boxed snack consisting usually of a sandwich, cookie, carrots and dip. The seats depend on which aircraft are being flown, if its on a 'bus, the seats are extremely hard, but their 733/734 seats are somewhat soft...any more questions feel free to ask...

USAFHummer, if you don't like US, I suggest you try FL on FLL-PHL (no IFE, etc., but it is $68 each way) or AA on MIA-PHL (probably most expensive option in most cases, but uses a mixture of 737-800s and 757-200s with IFE; also uses 727-200s, but not for long; plus, more room throughout coach).

Delta has cut the number of BDL-FLL flights from 3x daily to 2x daily after September 11. Delta also flys 2 times daily into PBI from BDL if you wanted to make the drive. AA's BDL-MIA changes between a 738 and MD80. Southwest I believe only serves FLL one stop through BWI but with time I think they will offer daily FLL non stop service out of BDL. Back a few years ago before delta express, Delta use to fly 2-3 daily 767's on the BDL-FLL and PBI's routes so use missed out on that. I think they flew some L1011's into S. Florida too.
