Please elaborate. Aircraft, routes, parts, facilities?

Continental could use some -400s in its collection of 737s...

Don't know why CO would much itself up with US mess, also don't know why they need -400s when they have 738s.

What is the source of the news?

Does US have any routes CO would be interested in? I can't see what CO would want other than aircraft, and most of US's aircraft wouldn't fit in to CO's fleet, as I see it. Sure would like to see some details.

The only US assets that might interest CO would be some of the 733, 752 fleet. Maybe some 734's. Nothing else. Perhaps also the CLT hub. The PHL/PIT hubs are too close to EWR/CLE.

Probably just a rumour.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

This is just one of the many rumors that float around the airline industry daily. I wouldn't hold your breath or even start speculating. This is how people get crazy ideas, from outlandish rumors full of speculations.

I won't believe anything until I see it official.

You won't see any A330's in CO colours, likely ever!

CO has an exclusive supplier agreement with Boeing.

The CO pilots are speculating Gordon B. wants the east coast routes. I agree that the fleets would be a horrible match, although there are a lot of CO MD80's in storage that could replace the 319-320's on most routes.

Forget it CO doesn't have the money to buy US. They need all the cash for themselves!

Why would CO ever consider taking their MD-80s out of storage? They're trying to get rid of them! Why would they want the 733s and 734s which average 12-15 years old? They've got many 737NGs on order! Their 757s aren't even similar in terms of configuration and USAirways operate some of the first 757s in production that are ex-Eastern birds. Why I ask, must you speculate in ways that make no sense? Let's wait for some facts and let's all keep our heads on straight.

Again, just rumor, but the jist is US will declare bankruptcy, and CO will buy the assets they want, and discard the rest.

Read Sean's post; then, think: AA-TWA.

It could work, as they "cherry-pick" assets out of bankruptcy.

I still don't think it likely, but my crystal ball crashed again, won't reboot w/o an operating system upgrade.

Wasn't the guy who used to be CEO at TWA (can't recall his name) also interested in something? Seems as if he's dying to get into the game again.

IF this deal were to go through. CO would keep CLT due to its position in the southeast. They would keep PHL simply due to its huge O/D traffic and as possible relief to EWR. However, what would happen with the PIT/CLE situation? One would be dropped without a doubt. Since PIT is a much nicer airport with unlimited expansion possibilities and CO has had some problems with the leadership of CLE, do you think that they would pull out of there and move a few miles down south to PIT?

More speculation, (from the CAL m-board) "the whole reason for bankruptcy is for the Company to have leverage on the employees both union and non-union when putting this together. Apparently, they can get rid of all non-union employees and hire at a much lower payscale and as far as the pilot and flight attendant groups we'll have to wait and see. Looks like another AA/TWA scenario."

None of the business-news sites I've checked have anything to say about this rumor. And most such sites just thrive on rumors!

Delta was going to buy Continental a few weeks ago.
