JetBlue: 10th Daily FLL-JFK!

Sat Nov 03, 2001 6:39 am

Okay, so the flight will only last during the very busy winter break season, but jetBlue will add a tenth daily Ft. Lauderdale-JFK flight on 21 December:

N6 49 JFK 1505-1800 FLL
N6 50 FLL 1840-2120 JFK
(through 6 January 2001; FYI: 21Dec01-06Jan02 is the winter break this year for Miami public schools and most Miami private schools).

For those who don't know, jetBlue currently flies between Miami and New York City six times a day. 7th and 8th daily flights arrive on 15 November and a 9th daily arrives 19 December. jetBlue inagurates the only non-stop flights between Ft. Lauderdale and Washington Dulles on 28 November (double daily).

I honestly will not be surprised if jetBlue were to run 15-16 daily FLL-JFK runs by mid-2003.

Thanks in advance.

Let's face it folks: B6 is going to need something bigger than the A320 they now fly.

Don't be surprised that they will purchase a number of A321's by 2005 just for the JFK-FLL service.

Any of jetBlue undelivered A320 orders (67 I think) can be changed into A321 orders. Right now, thier average load factor is 80%, according to a recent Miami Herald article (though I forget if that is system-wide or just on FLL-JFK). jetBlue has a very loyal customer base in the South Florida, were they will be operating 17 daily flights during the end of December (10x FLL-JFK; 5x PBI-JFK; 2x FLL-IAD). Look for FLL-LGB around springtime.

Why would Jetblue necessarily have to get something bigger ? SWA will eventually be all -700. JBU can stay with the 320 and when the loads on a particular segment warrant it, add frequency. It's a proven marketing technique, just look at JFK/FLL.
My definition of cool ? Not trying so hard to be cool.

However, with airports likely imposing slot restrictions as a noise abatement measure within the next few years, don't be surprised that airlines that have very busy routes will have to buy bigger planes.

That's why B6 will likely take a serious look at buying the A321.  Smile

Remember, they want the same type of aircraft. That is a major money saver for Jet Blue.

Less money training pilots, flight attendants, mechanics, ground crew.

Easier to save money- Buy parts in bulk, this must save a lot of money.

Guys, are you forgetting that the A320 and A321 are identical in just about every form excpet length? A pilot trained to fly an A320 and also fly an A321 (or A319 for that matter). Parts on the A320/1 are also interchangeable.

I did know the A320 family was interchangable with pilots, but not parts! So thats a very good plus for Jet Blue if they do need to expand because it won't cost them anything more if MAH is correct, besides the upgraded cost of the jet of course.

I had always wondered about the compatibility of the 320/1 on pilots and parts. If what MAH says is true it would be cheaper to go airbus than a 737/757 combo (like some people think Virgin Blue and National might be doing).

MAH4546 is correct.  Smile

One of the primary reasons why B6 can buy the A321 is the fact it has considerable commonality with the A320 the airline currently flies. They could use the larger A321, given the fact some of their routes (primarily JFK-FLL and potentially JFK-OAK and JFK-LGB) have the traffic to use all the seats that a B6-seating configuration A321 will likely have.

Plus if they have all their flight and cabin crews trained for the A321, along with equipping it with 199 seats or less, they can essentially exchange aircraft if flight X is overbooked by 15 pax, and flight Y has light loads each way.
