AMX Ncs

Sat Jul 17, 1999 9:41 pm

Just got back from MEX, where I saw the new AMX colors first hand. They are really quite a step up for the airline, which is trying to improve it's image. So far, 2 DC930s, an MD80, and a 757 have been painted. I believe that a 763 was in the paintshop. Over my trip, i flew 4 AMX flights. I must say that the intl service(JFK-MEX-JFK) was the best I've had in a while. Hats off to a great airline.

AMX Ncs

Can you describe the new colors? Because last Thursday I went to the airport and I only saw the same blue and red stripes in the Aeroméxico planes... The only substantial change they have made and I have noticed are the new type of letters... I would appreciate if you or someone could describe those "new" colors. Thanks! The new colors retain the silver fuselage. The 'center' silver stripe is eliminated. The tail is the same. There are now only two stripes. THe top one is a towned down red, not dayglow like the old one, but what I'd call a blood red. It is of a constant narrown diameter down the whole fuselage. THe second stripe is the same navy blue, only it starts out narrow at the rear of the fuselage and grows to encompass the whole nose at the front. Like I said, only 4 a/c have been painted, and I think a 767 is in the paintshop now. The 747-300 AMX has leased from swissair(deliv Nov.) os expected to wear the full new color scheme!

Aeroméxico 747?

Mon Jul 19, 1999 6:59 am

Thank you very much for your description... I really need to see the planes... Who told you about the 747 for Aeroméxico? That is a really nice notice because México never used the 747 and Aeroméxico will be the first one... Where can I see that info? Thanks in advance! Joaquín Mexico City / Ciudad de México

That info is taken from this month's World Airline Fleets News, a magazine. According to the magazine, "AMX has contracted to lease(dry) a 747-300 from swissair starting in November this year to operate pilgrimmage flights to Rome on behalf of the Archdiocese of MExico. The flights are being organized by the church, in a country where about 90% of the population follow the catholic religion, as part of its millenium celebrations. The aircraft is expected to wear the full Aeromexico livery for the duration of the contract."

THe aircraft has just been flown to Marana, AZ for storage until the lease begins. It was flown there on June 3. It is believed to be ex-HB-IGG, a 747-357 msn23751.

Aeroméxico 747

Mon Jul 19, 1999 8:56 am

Do you know how much the 747 is staying with Aeroméxico? The flights to Rome were ceased due to the fact Aeroméxico did not use any longer their DC-10. It does not surprise me at all that the Mexican Archidiocese have started this whole "Millenium Celebration". Thanks! Joaquín Mexico City / Ciudad de México

I do not know. It would be nice if it were permanent, but the article states 'for the duration of the contract', suggesting that it is only for a relatively short period of time.
