What aircraft do you think is the best aircraft ever made. I think the Boeing 707 and 777 are the best ones made. What do you think?

It is hard to decide one over many catagories, so here are my favorite from each catagory:

Fighter: F-15
Mil. Chopper: AH-64
Civ. Chopper: MD-900 (Explorer)
Mil. Cargo: C-17
Civ. Cargo: MD-11F
Bomber: B-1B
Recon: SR-71
Tanker: KC-10
Passenger: MD-11 or BWB (not really built, but design considered)

The Lockheed L-188 Electra. Some 1959 models are still in service. I flew on two of them on Reeve Aleutian a couple of years ago.

I think the Boeing 757 was the best ever made! You never
hear anything about it! And that's a good thing!

RE: Best Aircraft Ever Made--747-10

Well I think the best aircraft ever made is the 747-100 . It was a milestone for civil aviation brining passengers all over the world for a farely cheap and inexpensive way. It paved the way for long haul aircraft for ever!!!

I rest my case!

I think the best aircraft EVER built has been the Lockheed C-130. It can do everything but dogfight.

It's the greatest!

In my opinion, the best passenger airliner is the MD-11, and the best civil freighter is the MD-11. I think the best military freighter is the C-17.

I think that the best aircraft ever made are the 707,747, and 777. They are all revolutionary aircraft.

Okay, I can see why the 707 and 747 can be called revolutionary, but what on earth is it that makes the 777 revolutionary ? Mind you, I'm not saying it's a bad plane, just that it is NOT revolutionary in any particular way.

I believe the whole airbus fleet is cool. There wings are so gracefull and beautiful. They are also very technoligacally ahead in some areas. Thats why I like the whole airbus airplanes.

The 707 was revolutionary because it allowed for transportation between the continents. Teh 747 is revolutionary because it made air travel cheaper, and connected more cities than any other airliner. The 777 is revolutionary because it is the largest twin ever made, and has become the most technological commercial aircraft made right now.

Sorry CX747, can't agree with you on the 777. Just because it's the biggest twin ever built to date it doesn't make it revolutionary. The MD-11 is the biggest Tri-jet ever made, why not call it revolutionary too ? Or how about the A-340-600, it will be the biggerst twin flying. Do we then suddenly call it revolutionary ? As far as the 777 being the most modern commercial airplane, I think most people will agree that it's still the Airbus with the (full) fly-by-wire controls and the side-sticks. Especially since it was designed almost quite a few years in advance of the 777 this can be called an accomplishment.

Some of your information is wrong Cool Cat. First the A340-600 will not be the biggest twin, because the A340 family is of the four engine variant. Second, the 777 has broken on to the world's commercial aviation stage like now aircraft since the 747. Is it as revolutionary as the 707 and 747? No, but it still marks a revolutionary change in design and using technology.

Fair enough CX747, you are absolutely right, I wasn't thinking. Ofcourse the A-340 is four engined (silly me !). I think what we have here is just a simple matter of a difference in opinion. You think this..I think that.. Anyway, not big deal. I didn't mean to get on your case or anything, I can see that the 777 is a novel plane in many ways, it just I wouldn't call it revolutionary. But, again, that's just my opinion.

RE: 777 is revolutionary.

I know why he is calling it revolutionary. It is because the press has told him that (and Boeing told them that) and he belives it, no problem though, I belived it also until I checked into the subject. The 777 was the first airliner fully designed by computer (thats why the press calls it revolutionary). But, planes were being designed on computers way before that (anybody heard of the F-117?). But that is partly because Boeing waited until computer tech had advanced enough to be able to do that. MD and Airbus just designed their 300 seat class aircraft differently. They both had parts designed on computers, but not the whole thing.

I agree with CX747 and Cool Cat IIIc. The 777 was designed in a more advanced way, but it is not revolutionary, the revolutionary part is just a marketing a press gimic that has fooled a lot of us. Planes are only revolutionary if they offer great advances in performance, economy, or even a whole new way of travel, and permanently changes the way that air travel is.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS IN A BAD WAY, PLEASE!!!

What everyone is forgetting is that the 777 is the only wide body twin in the world. So,YES it is revolutionary, but not on as much of a scale as the 747 or 707.

P.S.The largest twin in the world is not the 777,it is the A-300-ST.Also commonly refered to as the Beluga.

Sorry Scott

Sorry Scott, but the 777 is not the only widebody twin in the world. There is also the A300, A310, A330, and B767.

I will state again, the 777 was the first commercial aircraft to be designed totally without paper. It is also the largest twin engine aircraft in the form of the 777-300. In case anyone thinks I am a big 777 fan, I am not. My plane is the 747 which is better than the 777 in many ways. I doubts Boeings capabilities of producing an aircraft that is as great as the 747.

RE777/Beluga?

Sun Dec 06, 1998 4:03 pm

The 777-300 mat be longer, but the Beluga has THE largest cargo capacity of any plane anywhere in the world(including the An-225),and it's also a twin.
