Yes, this is a regularily scheduled flight, although incidentally, I believe today marks the conclusion of Alaska's non-stop LAX-ANC service for the year.

Alaska used to fly MD-80s with extended fuel-tanks on this route, but switched to 737-700s last year. The 737-700s have more galley space, and are also more fuel-efficient.

And, the 73G does have one other advantage. Imagine sitting next to the rear engines of an MD-80 for five hours straight. Now, THAT's gotta be fun!

I checked the Alaska website and it shows no nonstops on this route, all are connected through SEA. So this flight is a rare one. If the link has expired:

Carrier: Alaska Airlines

Flight Number: 105

Departure City: Los Angeles, CA

Arrival City: Anchorage, AK

Departure Time: 9:07pm

Arrival Time: 1:08am

Equipment: B737

What is the difference between 5 hours on a 737 vs 5 hours on a 757 or A320? For that matter, how about the days of the 707/DC-8/VC-10? Oh, sorry, I forgot that there are people that have never ridden a narrowbody transcon or transoceanic.

Aloha also utilizes the 737-700 on routes from Honolulu, Kahului and Keahole Kona to Orange County and Oakland, 5+ hours over water no less.

Westjet will shortly commence a Hamilton ON to Abbotsford BC 73G flight.....about 5 hours.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

Oh, CO does that garbage all the time on LAX-EWR and back.I just did SNA-EWR in a 73G back in August, and due to a delay in SNA we had to make a fuel stop at BWI.(fun huh, right.)One advantage is that the flights that have 73Gs doing long flights is that the plane in never full because of the restictions.

Air Pacific flies from Hawaii to Vancouver aboard a 737-800. I don't have any problems with flying long flights on narrow bodies. I actually enjoy it more.

LAX-ANC -- piece of cake.

According to the Boeing website, the 737-700 can even make BOS-ANC with a full load That would make the flight around 7 hours!

I assume the 737NG is ETPOS certified? Would need to be, to make it from west coast to HI.

Cheers,
Pete

Copa Airlines has a flight between Panama City, Panama and Los Angeles California, if I am not mistaking this is a nonstop flight about 6 hours.

Copa also uses the 73G NON-STOP between Panama City and Buenos Aires. I belive that is the longest non-stop 737 flight. Before 9/11, Varig operated a second-weekly Miami-Manaus frequency with a 73G as well (also about 5-5.5hrs. TAM uses an A320 on the route daily).
