UAL Commercials!

Mon Nov 05, 2001 12:17 pm

As most of you have probably seen, (atleast in the USA). United has been running a string of commercials with employees talking about their jobs, how much they like their jobs, etc etc. Well, there is one with a lady, with a Red vest on, she is a mechanic and she talks about how she fixes all the planes. When she mentions the types of aircraft she works on , she says: "Seven-forty-sevens, seven-triple-sevens...."

I crack up everytime I hear it. I am surprised they let it run, would have thought they would've caught the "seven-triple-seven" part!!

You must be watching the Series too. Perhaps the worst set of commercials United has ever put out. And that particular one IS hilarious - - what the heck is a seven-triple-seven? Is that a 7x777? Would that be a 777777777777777777777?

Thank God I'm not the only person here who can't stand those ads! And that butch who's going on about fixing planes has got to be the worst! Also the guy who's the purser or whatever who's talking about all the different destinations...hell, all these guys! Are they really real employees?

Hehe,

Yeah, I'm watching the World Series, and almost every commercial break UAL has a commercial. There's also that one with the guy who talks about how you can go on a vacation to Hawaii, Ft. Lauderdale, Italy, etc. and no worries, cuz he'll take care of you!!!

Yes, they are real employees. If I remember correctly, those commercials were filmed at ORD over a two or three day period a couple of weeks after the 11th.
After I posted my first response, I started thinking a little more about those spots - Its not the employees I mind so much, its the way the commercial was filmed. I thought the days of the camera constantly moving around were over. That element annoys me, but I guess you've also got to remember that the employees in these spots aren't behind the camera, setting up the shots and shaking the camera around, and they don't pick which segments get aired and when. Those decisions are made by an ad agency. I guess what I'm saying is that we can easily make fun of these people, but they're real people, the ones on the front lines trying to keep the airline from becoming another sad chapter in US aviation history. So I'm going to give them credit for backing up their jobs and their airline. Yep, even if they do fly strange aircraft types.

Everyone here should remember that the last TV footage from United before these series of ads was one of their planes flying into the side of a building.

I am not an advertising critic (sometimes). But these employee's (airline) are putting a face and an image on what was the most terrifing tv footage we have ever seen.

2 thumbs up for the employees.

We are UNITED!

hey guys,
they are the worst commericals of any kind I have ever seen!!! How bad can they get?!
and how can you explain the "seven-triple-seven" part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turbine Beaver, the reason you keep seeing them during the world series, is because United sponsored the game.
Yankees are still best!!!

cheers

Just when we thought the contradictory "United Rising" commercials were bad enough, out they come with these. If United really wanted to touch peoples' hearts, they would bring back the very familiar "Fly the Friendly Skies".

All I have to say that they hired the most unattractive bunch of my fellow employees that they could've found.

This company already has the reputation of having tons of elderly flight attendant women with 35 years' seniority. I hate to say it, but my gosh, I would really have liked to see the company at least try to glamorize United. Use at least two or three pretty people. I mean really.

Yep. I definitely should've been invited to that casting call. Damn. Wish I woulda known about it.
 Laugh out loud

OK, so mock me... but I thought the ads were tasteful, and reassuring. At this point in time, perhaps the best approach to selling for UAL.

It is a good reminder that, ultimately, the airline is comprised of its people, and these are people who want us to know that they are there to serve.

And the tag line, "We are... United." Very effective.

I thought they were good commercials, not as good as their old ones, but they are still OK.

I've always thought United had the best television commercials. I remember as a young child getting excited about the super bowl not only for the football but to see if United would have a new commercial run during the event. My second year of taking piano lessons, my teacher asked me if there was a special piece of music in which I wanted to work on for the year. She was very surprised when I asked her to get me the sheet music to Gershwin's Rapsody in Blue. I still haven't mastered that piece 15 years later. I probably never will. I sincerely hope United makes it through these tough times without too many problems.

guys, cut the woman some slack. how do you know what she was sayin? Maybe she was gonna say "seven-seven-seven", but then decided to say "triple seven" instead, but after the first "seven". Maybe she was gonna say "seven-two-seven"(sniff, Crying sniff), "seven-five-seven", or "seven-three-seven", but it came out wrong. Hey, you ever heard of STAGE FRIGHT?!

I cannot stand those commercials. United is the worst airline and is a disgrace to the industry. Why do they run those ads when they've lost more passengers than any other airline?

In terms of lost amounts, their customers are walking away in amazing numbers, due to their terrible service.

C'mon, cut that woman in the United Commercial some slack, it's not like she's a paid actor and besides, who else but "Aviation Enthusiasts" would notice that mistake. Who cares for that matter? It's just a commercial.

The A320 Commercial was the most hilarious. How have your experiences been with UAL? Just curious...

For airline ads they are wonderfully mediocre. I saw the one refered to last night and got a headache from shaking my head in wonder. The thing is, we are but 10000 of many millions. I asked at work today, and nobody understood what I was talking about.

The editors of this one needed some technical support.

"United is the worst airline and is a disgrace to the industry."

Oh, grow up.  Insane

I've always enjoyed flying United. I've never had a problem with them, except for things that were beyond their control (i.e. weather). I used to fly Continental, too, but that was years ago, but I liked them as well.

Did anyone happen to see the pre-game show sunday? It was completely sponsored by United. The United name and logo was on the screen the entire show. Not to mention the fancy logo effects and set design.

I wonder how many millions that cost? No wonder why we are hemorrhaging money.
