General Aviation Flying Costs In The USA

Tue Nov 06, 2001 12:25 pm

Hi all

I will be travelling to the USA over the winter this year and just like to get a idea of how much I should pay for flying lessons. In Australia I hire 150's for around $85AU private, and $110AU with an instructor.

I will be staying in Fayetteville AK and want to learn in the cheapest aircraft available, preferably and Cessna 150/2 (any age) or a Piper Tomahawk. I have 35 hours and don't mind a compromise of comfort to save a few extra bucks. What is the going rates of old Cessna 150's and cheap instructors?

Hope you can give me a insight
Regards

Do you mean Fayetteville Arkansas (AR)?

I forgot the actual numbers I have paid for both Tomahawks and 150s but I believe it could've been around $60-$80 total an hour for both the instructor and plane.

I also trained in the 152 here:

But I believe this was more expensive than the other schools I went to.

A bit off topic, but how are instructors treating foreign students in light of Sep 11 events? Can anyone from US provide some insight?

Watewate-I don't think he would have trouble coming from Australia, but if you came from the Mid East, they might go through the FBI, I don't know.
