How Long Does It Take To Build An Aircraft?

Tue Nov 06, 2001 6:35 pm

Obviously the bigger the a/c, the longer it takes to build, but does anyone know the lead times from start to finish of say a 757?
How many will be built at once? and how often do they roll out - e.g. 1 a week? or more?
Write about any a/c...im just interested to know.

I'm guessing a bit, but I would assume that once all the components are recieved at the final assembly plant from the contractors, I would expect final assembly to take no more than a week.

It depends. As far as I know around 4 757 are build each months. You should expect a total assembly time from the pure metal sheet to delivery of at least 4 months, likely to be more.

Of course, if you include the time needed for all the contractors to build all the components, it would be a LOT longer.

At Boeing it takes around 11 weeks to ASSEMBLE a B737NG - with all the components pre-fabricated elsewhere.

Yeah I believe that when I visited the Boeing plant the construction for a 747 from start to delivery is 5 months however there is 9 months usually from Order till delivery.
hope that I helped and that I am accurate.

Cheers guys. Does anyone know how many a/c are in production at a time?

I was just thinking of how long it would take to put out 50 737's for Ryanair!
