Proud/Not Proud Of Your Country's Major Airline(s)

Wed Nov 07, 2001 7:15 pm

Okay guys i've been here for nearly 3 months but sometimes it's really sad and upset that there are arguments beteen different people of different airlines and conflicts.

So maybe this time let's forget our FAVOURITE airline, but actually say if you're proud or not proud of your country's major airline or the country you're now in.Forget your favourite airline, or arguments would definetly be seen in this forum!!  Laugh out loud

So I'm an Aussie and I'm in Hong Kong at the moment.I'm actually very, very proud of......

and i guess most Aussies will agree with me!With its wonderful safety records that even other airlines talk about, Qantas is one of my favourite airline!Way to Go!

I will always be proud of their excellent service on both domestic and international routes (Never travelled on International but heard it was great).Hope things will be better in the future for Ansett Mark II!

And for Hong Kong...

Comparing with other Mainland China Airlines, i should say Dragonair is way better than most Mainland China airlines when Dragoair's network streches over China! For Cathay, I'm also proud! But also say that if pilots and the managements could have fewer conflicts and no-more negative news of strikes, leasing Mainland China planes to operate for CX i would be even prouder!Again Way To Go, KA and CX!

Overall, I'm proud of my country's airlines!  Laugh out loud

Best Regards

Well I'm from the UK and I have no special feelings for any of the carriers there, however its a fact that BA is one of the best.

I now live in Hong Kong and CX is one of the best in the world, my best friend (CXFlyboy) is a pilot at CX and my sister in law is a Senior flight attendent with KA so I guess I have more of a feeling for these two carriers than the airlines in my country of birth.

p.s that Ansett special scheme looks so good it should've been their official corporate I.D rather than the bland Eurowhite livery.

Maybe you guys should also add Singapore Airlines Cargo too!  Laugh out loud

I am proud to British and proud of EasyJet, Buzz, Go and RyanAir (OK not British but has many routes from England).

I am not proud of BA because it is a high cost/high fare airline that only survives because of its Heathrow slots!

I'm from Norway, and yes, I'm pretty proud of Scandinavian Airlines. SAS is not really a national for Norway though.

I quite like the all-Norwegian airline Braathens also, even though they're not doing to well at the moment.

I'm from Singapore and what else could be better than Singapore Airlines? The finest First Class, full beds in Business, and the new Economy. Pretty FAs, the service that even other airlines talk about, one of the youngest fleets, and a great safety record.

I'm from the US, and while don't have a "national" carrier, I'm very proud of my hometown airline, AA. I know some of you don't like U.S. airlines, but it makes me feel proud to board my AA 777-200 when I'm at NRT, ZRH, CDG, LGW, or at what ever foriegn airport. I look at it's silver body and swept up wings with the red, white, and blue stripe down its side as I walk down the jetway, give her a pat on the side before I enter the door, and say, "take us home babe."

I live in Canada and I am proud of Canada 3000, I believe that the way they have grown from a small charter airline to the second largest airline in Canada is great. On the other hand, I am not proud of Air Canada (I know they are the national carrier...but) after they got privatisted in 1989 they still have been getting help for years from the government (ie.$$$). And they have been allowed to have a monopoly of the airline industry here in Canada.
I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)

Here in Canada there are mixed feelings about our main flag carrier, Air Canada. But in their day, CP Air and Wardair were considered something to be proud about.

Hey,
I live in the UK and THE best airline we have here is Virgin Atlantic (Overides BA anyday!) but I also am a massive fan of the national airline of my half homeland Ireland - Aer Lingus. Lets just hope EI can pull through the trouble somehow.

Hi!

Yes beeing portuguese I always and will always cheer for our small, neat but very efficient TAP/Air Portugal, and this for some major reasons:

1 - TAP was one of the pioneers in flying around Africa in the 40's.

2 - TAP was and still is one of the most safety airlines in the world.

3 - TAP pilots I consider them one of the best in the world too!

4 - TAP as been given a major contribute for civil aviation from many years until now.

I enclose one of the TAP trademarks, the beautifull but very dirty 727-100, TAP was the 2nd. airline in Europe to order that plane after Lufthansa!

I'm from Norway and would not acctually say that I'm proud of SAS. The airline is nice, but to say I'm proud of it, is to put it way too long.
The bigest drawbacks with SAS is that they have quite an arrogant attitude, and arn't showing or giving any special hostytality to their customers. I also don't think that they reflect the counties the represend as much as they should. (that are too anonymous)

The greatest thing with SAS (this can actually make me proud) is their fleet. Lots of MD's and Boeings, and they have several different variants (not only b737 etc.).

From Germany: Lufthansa all the way. Nearly grounded forever in the late 80ies, and look at it now: One of the best and largest worldwide, at the core (and active founding member) of the most impressive Airlines Network, the Star Alliance.
Thanks to all and big thumbs-up at LH, especially Mr. Weber, for making it happen!

I am from the States, but I live in Singapore. Being an American, its hard for me to choose my "national" carrier. However, being originally from the western US. I have to admit that was and still proud of what was the "airline of the West": Western Airlines. Delta sadly ate Western, but that Indian spirit will live on in my heart forever.

While i am not really proud of Air India (AI)and Indian Airlines(IC), the overall aviation scene here has improved tremendously. IC in particular have improved tremendously over the past decade.

Tha aviation sector is simply booming here and it can only get better. No fewer than 6 new carriers are coming up. The 350 million strong Indian Middle class is switching from Trains to Planes so it can only get better! With the arrival of better than world-class private airlines like Jet Airways (9W), the overall level of service for ALL domestic carriers has improved. So in that sense I am proud.

Only AI is left out now. :-(

I have to agree with L'espace180 and corsairf/a.
I am very proud of Air France. And it is not because it is our flag carrier.
I have been very impressed by my trip CDG-BOM-CDG last week.
And it is one of the most profitable major airline.

AND CONCORDE IS FLYING AGAIN !!!!!

Hi UDO!

You talk by yourself and you have all the right to think the way you think, now what I don't accept is that you want to mix with any personall feelings that other people have, at leat show a little respect for those words above mencioned. I'll try to explain the meaning of most of us have about their airline, it's like have respect for our history, our kings, our flag etc. etc. About our airline it's also history, why I'm pround of TAP, because they started in 1945, a bunch of ex: military young pilots that wanted to start air transportation in Portugal, they had to do it all from the zero, now is that a matter of no concern about our airline? About my contribution infact I think I did many times, everytime I fly in TAP I'm helping them, and probably I have contributed to other airlines either, at least my conscience doesn't bother me on that!!!

From the UK and im proud of Virgin, because of what they stand for. They have been battled against by BA for years and BA have done a lot to try and squash their competitors into non-existence.
But Virgin battled through, and have made their mark as one of the most envied carriers. They are unique, and no other airline turns as many heads as Virgin when one of their Silver 744's arrives at an airport.

CV990,

It's a question of how you define "being proud".
I wouldn't say I'm proud of an airline which I like or admire but I would say 'I have respect'. I think that's a difference.

I am very proud of AA and UA.........
The Pilots/FA and employees I have met since Sept 11 have shown me a unified and spirited group of passionate professionals. When I think of American and United in my photography, I think now of 3 photos.
The first is the actual 767 a few months before Sept 11.....

Hi Udo!

Why not say "proud"? Infact it's a deep word but IF we're really glad the way the airline have been carry on in the business, the way they evoluted, the way they donne history in civil aviation I think "pround" it's a nice and honored word to pay respect to all those that gave their lives for the airline. But I of course respect your "respect" for those airlines!

I have to say that as an American I'm not too proud of either United or American. Living close to New York, neither one of these airlines serve JFK very well. JFK is afterall the gateway to America. However, I can say that I was proud of TWA and Pan Am, both were true flag carriers and international pioneers. Also being Portuguese, I can say that I take pride in TAP mostly for their history and I've always had a soft spot for the underdog, which I feel as a European airline TAP is.
