In the USA, Southwest Airlines advertises the city name of the airport and then lists the larger destination below it. For instance, the timetable lists "Manchester, NH" in bold font." Underneath, in smaller letters, it notes "Boston Area." You see both where you're landing, and what the nearby big city is.
Years ago I was in Germany and rode between Hamburg and Lubeck; it couldn't have been even an hour. Here in the Washington, DC area lots of folks drive that much between Virginia and Baltimore-Washington airport. Maybe Lubeck and Hahn airports can rename themselves, as suggested above, like BWI did 20 years ago. Eg, "Lubeck-Hamburg Regional Airport." "Flughafen Lubeck-Hamburg."
