Ryanair's Latest LOL

Thu Nov 08, 2001 7:58 am

Hello,

I am not attacking Ryanair, but I find their latest rather funny. According to a report in today's Star (Irish gossip tabloid) new FR cabin crew with are being asked to pay £450 to buy a Ryanair uniform.

That just takes the cake. Big grin

Yeah, thats true, but they didn't mention that aparantly the crew will be able to claim the money back as tax relief, so they won't really pay for it at all.

it does take the biscuit when you consider how frequently and how far you could travel for the cost of this (maybe poxy) uniform(with Ryanair i mean)!

Well you also have to spend 50 quid to to send your CV for a pilot position. You also have to do this online, and until recently it was a secure link!

Actuallu, most staff for US carriers have to pay for their uniforms.

When Pan Am was around, flight attendants had to buy their own 14 carat gold plated wings to pin to their uniforms. They cost around $250 each.

£450 Irish or Sterling? Kinda steep, but if it's a tax write-off, oh well. There are a lot of professions where it is required for the employee to buy expensive stuff necessary for the job.

I don't know the tax laws in the UK but a tax credit of $450.00 USD on what an FA makes is worthless in the US.
