Have You Seen Any Big Piston Airliner Lately?

Sat Nov 10, 2001 2:38 am

Hi!

I just wanted to feel how are we still, regarding those lovely, old, noisy piston airliners, I personally miss a lot those planes and I remember during late 70's and early 80's to see quire often them flying to Lisbon. Now I think it's geeting quite rare to see them unless you're in Alaska or Latin America. But my question is, apart from those ones that are flying museums when did you last seen one of those airliners. I start saying that I saw in August 1998 in Fresno a C-54 ( looked like a water-bomber ) and in 1999 a CV440 at Evora Airport - CS-TML that is now in Air Atlantic. Please let me have your information too!!!

There's a Beech 18 that flies on behalf of ABX, that comes into HII (Havasu Municipal) twice a day. Not exactly a "big" piston prop-job, but it's still a pretty cool sight watching that puppy taking flight.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Regards.

Hi!

The Beech 18 it's a classic, so it counts too, it's been ages since I last saw one, it was a canadian one that passed via Lisbon to Africa!!! You're a lucky guy FlagshipAZ.

I watched the "Save a Connie" Constellation fly over on approach to Kansas City downtown airport a couple of weeks ago. It's pretty on the ground...even prettier in flight.

Just got back from my town's airport about 15minutes ago, we had a DC-3 stop in...the largest aircraft I've ever seen at that airport aside from a Hawker 800.

We have regular scheduled DC-3's, DC-4's, and C-46's here at YZF (Yellowknife NT) They are all operated by Buffalo Airways. the biggest planes we get up here are 737-200's Combi and sometimes the 727-200 Combi operated by First Air and Canadian North

That's cheating. It's not fair to live somewhere that a C-46 or C-54 flies regularly.

First Air flies that far west? Live and learn.

How is it cheating? All the originall says is that it can not be one flying at the museums. Oh yeah and Yellowknife is like one of First Airs northern Hubs

Here are some. The first from Watson Island International Airport in Miami. The other one is FLL. Both still in service. I went on one a few months ago very loud inside and out!

Anchorage has 2 DC-6 operators. Air Cargo Express and Northern Air Cargo operating from the airport. They fly quite regularly.

Also ACE flies a C-46 and there is another operator called Desert Air that has a C-47 on field.

There used to be a Caribou operater here too, but they cracked the airplane up a couple of months back.
