SN's New Name...

Sat Nov 10, 2001 4:46 am

There are already mentioned some names for the new Sabena. Some I heard were 'Delta Plus', 'DAT Plus', 'Air Belgium' (again...). These are the ones I heard on VTM; so don't kill me if it insn't true,  Wink/being sarcastic

I'd like to know the meaning of you about these names. Be critical; sceptical, euphorical, everything! I just want to know it!

Best regards,
Wim

Why not keeping the name Sabena? I know, the new company is said to have nothing in common with the old Sabena. But remember, in the US, when Midway, Pan Am, Braniff etc. went bankrupt, there was always another airline adopting these names. Btw, it would save them lots of money because they wouldn't have to re-paint the logos on the aircraft, check-in desks, boarding passes, uniforms, ...

I think you are absolutely right. In my opinion, they should keep the name 'Sabena'; but I thought they can't. But don't ask me why... Maybe Apuneger knows...

Meanwhile, I've heard another name... 'Sabena Light'. Personally, I think this name is rather... stupid for an airliner. This name has something like "now there is a new version of Sabena; and we have to give it a name as Coca Cola gave to Coca Cola Light...". I find it a stupid name.

But, as I said it already; keeping the name Sabena would be the best thing to do...

Since the new airline will keep on serving Africa, it might be very possible that the name of the new carrier will be... Sabena once again.
After all this name still has a very good reputation despite the recent problems.
I saw there were riots in Kinshasa this morning because several hundreds of Congolese willing to travel to Belgium to visit family found out there was no SN flight anymore. They simply could not believe it! Sabena is (or should I say was) just one of those things that were taken for granted.
If they opt to give the carrier a new name after all, I feel at least they should keep their logo, be it the stylish S or alternatively the Margritte bird. This fantastic surrealistic design which was designed in the 1930 by Belgian painter Margritte is displayed on all of the winglets of SN planes and personally I think it is one of the most beautiful aviation logos I can think of.
what do you think of it? Can you image it on the tail?

Keep SABENA. The brand recognition is already there. Despite its recent problems, it is a venerable carrier and it would be tragic to see it go altogether.

The name Sabena now also creates negative recognition-the strikes didnt help.
