Canada 3000 Is No More!

Mon Nov 12, 2001 1:37 pm

Latest news reports state that Canada 3000 has ceased all operations and is bankrupt. The company's directors and officers have all resigned and all assets are to be sold off. Company officials could not find any suitable offers this past weekend to allow the company to continue operations. Canada 3000 was Canada's second largest airline company. It is certainly sad to hear of its demise.

I guess that makes WestJet Canada's #2 scheduled airline now and First Air probably becomes #3.

I wonder what's become of our friend, Buff. He was a pilot for them. I hope he's found a job to replace that one.

I know he decided to abandon these forums shortly after September 11th. I'm just hoping that someone's kept up on him.

So, it's confirmed is it? C3000 is gone!!!!

Are there any rumours, or any news of anyone wanting to start up to replace them?

What happened to Royal? Are they gone too?

Does Transat have any scheduled flights?

C3000 is gone! The news came in just as suddenly as when they grounded their aircraft this past week; and these aren't rumours.

Their assets will be sold off in the coming weeks for fair market value, the leased aircraft returned to leasing companies and creditors paid amounts owed (although, I imagine not in full).

There's a lot still up in the air though. No mention of Royal since Mr. Leblanc (ex-Royal CEO) raised a few eyebrows this past week in stating that he wanted to buy back Royal assets from C3.

From the looks of it now, Air Canada, Westjet, and Air Transat are the only ones left. Hopefully Westjet will not rush into things by expanding too quickly which could cause it some growing pains...

Ooops.. Forgot about them. I'm sure their winter getaway traffic will increase. I wonder to what extent they will fill the void left by Canada 3000 for flights within Canada.

I speak for all Canadian when I too say: Canada 3000 has met a sad end.
OUtstanding debts and economic slowdowns in Canada has really pummeled this airline which had a big future in mind.. Eg/ its First A340.. Its been in service for what.. less than 2 weeks?

I heard that all its planes which were lease will be sent back to the owners liek tomorrow.  Sad

Ill miss those A330-200s the 757-200s the A320s and the dreadful 737-200s.

This really STinKS! It makes airports even more boring now for spotting.  Sad
First Ansett, then Sabena and then C3.. Who will be next?!

IM surprised that No US Airlines had suffered massive like this. Jet BLue, US Airways,, and other Airlines which are Based in NYC or DC or any city near the inflicted places..

I was really hoping to get a shot of the a340 someday ...

I feel so sad about Canada 3000. I always thought they were a model airline of how the airline business should be. To bring the world closer at an affordable price. I was looking to go to Australia next year and Canada 3000 was always the cheapest out of Vancouver.

Skyservice And Air Transat

Mon Nov 12, 2001 3:44 pm

Would C3 sell it's routes to Air Transat and Skyservice? Would they buy them?

I can see Air Transat buying some of C3's domestic routes/planes and Skyservice buying international routes/planes to help these Airlines expand and to fill the void left buy Canada 3000's death.

Another question. How likely is it that a new airline, maybe with a different name and organisational structure grow out of the ashes of C3? Perhaps Sir Richard Branson might acquire some C3 assets and start up a Virgin Canada or something along those lines. (provided of course he receives permission from the Government or finds a way around the foreign ownership restrictions) Perhaps Gerry Swartz might take another look at the Airline industry.

Any thoughts?

I think 2T had a great route structure, with many profitable routes. Out of Montreal, they were usually very full.....this is really too bad!

I read in the paper on the weekend that mentioned that on 10 September they recorded their largest bookings for 1 day, and then September 11. Rather sad isn't it. I am not sure how profitable the routes were to Australia some of those prices to Hawaii and Vancouver looked awfully cheap.

Strength to my friends and colleagues at Canada 3000. And good luck at the rally today, November 12.

These are sad days, indeed.

To ALL Canada 3000 employees :

A small message of solidarity with every single one of you. You will all be going through very hard times.

The ones who have lost their heart to aviation will no doubt find their way and a new job in the airline industry.

Hang in there !

I doubt that a CANADA 3000 will be back ever. There might be a new airline under a different name with similar components, but the way this whole bankruptcy was handled it lost many customers and numerous other parties.

I don't think C3 owned many (if any) of their planes, so people can't exactly pick them up for particularly cheap. Let's hope for the routes, though, and for their GREAT employees. I really would love to see a new startup or maybe a couple right now. Times are tough, but we need SOMEONE other than AC to profit from C3's downfall. Whatever happened to the TWO carriers that were proposing to fly Do-328's in Ontario and Quebec? One was to be based in London and the other in Quebec city. I e-mailed Bearskin Airlines and they said they're still considering YUL-YKZ. It would just be a drop in the bucket, but it would be SOMEthing...
Next flight.... who knows.
