Purdue, Western Michigan, And Ohio State

Tue Nov 13, 2001 6:11 am

I am a senior in high school and am interested in majoring in aviation/flight in college. I know that there has already been a thread posted about Western Michigan, but I was wondering if anyone could list some pros and cons of each of these schools for me. Also, if anyone knows anything about the University of North Dakota info would be great! I am not very familiar with their program. Any info that anyone could provide would be great! Thanks.

I am a sophomore and one day I was bored so I researched avation colleges. I have a lot close to home here in Ohio.

Here is a list I came up with:
Kent State-OH
Ohio State
Bowling Green State-OH
UND
Western Michigan
Ohio University
U. of Cinncinatti
Purdue
Embry-Riddle

I'm sure there are more but I dunno.

I also want to major in avation in college. All the colleges I listed have good avation programs. I do know a lot about the Kent State program: They have their own airport with a fleet of Cessnas and Beech twin engines, simulators, etc. Kent is a decent sized college 20,000 and Kent is an average college town. One time Kent offered $10 aiplane rides and I went. I was fun and I got to see the KSU airport and their planes.

Well I still have two more years to decide where to go

When I was interviewing pilots for my airline, many of our most outstanding applicants came to us from some of the schools you mentioned above. Kent State is well represented at COEX, as well as Western Michigan and UND. Farther to the South are Auburn University which has 26,000 students and a good football team and Florida Tech which offers the weather of Florida and a very reputable flight program. Middle Tennesee State has a well known aviation program as well. Visit many campuses and ask questions about aircraft avalability and average time to complete the various ratings through the 141 programs as some schools drag some ratings out more than others. Any of the schools mentioned above will give you a well rounded education and a diploma you will be proud to hang on your wall at home.

Good luck and have fun.

Thanks. Right now I am most seriously considering Purdue because it is the closest one to me and the one that I have the most information on. I will be sure to take a hard look at the others that were mentioned as well!!!

I'm double-majoring in Commercial Aviation and Flight Education at UND. I'm also thinking of a third major in ATC. Drop me an email, I'll tell you all about the school and programs, (joell@aero.und.edu). I really like it here and hope you consider it.
