This Year Hasn't Been That Safe Afterall!

Tue Nov 13, 2001 12:32 pm

Back in August there was a thread on this board discussing the apparently safe year we'd been having in Aviation. Isn't it amazing how much things can change in the course of a couple of months?

Here is a link to that thread.

I would like to express my deapest sympathies for the victims of AA587 whose passing today was most unfortunate.

Safe compared to other years, no. But aviation is still far safer than driving to the airport. And the only way one can be truly safe is to sit in the middle of a windowless basement seatbelted to a couch bolted to the floor.

If the terrorist attacks had never happened, I'm betting that it would've been a fairly average year in terms of fatalities.
