I Deidcate This Thread To American Airlines...

Wed Nov 14, 2001 12:14 pm

I have always, in ways, viewed AA as the flag carrier of America, even if it isn't the largest carrier.  Big grin

Truly, in the last few months, my love for American Airlines has grown sharply. I loved her before and I love her even more now. AA has weathered tough times before, and if she's weathered this storm so far, she'll weather it to the end.

I dedicate this thread to American Airlines, to the love I have for her, and to her undying spirit. To those who fly her, to those who fly FOR her. Those who work from the ground up to keep America's Airline flying, this is your thread.

AA is America's airline, and I love her.  Love

Here's to that!

Of the US carriers i've flown, American was by far my favourite and I would choose them first if I ever had to venture stateside.

Long live the Eagle!

Aloha, I'm just curious, is there any particular reason why you've viewed American Airlines as the the flag carrier of America? Is it partly because the airline bears the country's name? The vibrant red, white and blue (which looks really good amidst the silver) around the planes' bodies perhaps? I've always viewed United Airlines to be America's carrier for some reason. When I was a id I've always thought United was better known than American. Anyway, I'm curious to know your reasons. Thanks.
Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

Trickijedi,

It's kind of hard to explain why I've always viewed American as America's Airline.

I'm sure the livery, the red white and blue, have alot to do with it, but I think it goes deeper than that.

When I was a little kid, my granfather used to take me to the airport at SLC once every two months, to see the planes.

One of my FONDEST memories was walking into the old (pre renovation) SLC terminal and seeing the big, bluie and red AA sign on the ticket counter.
I also remember the nice AA captain I talked to once, told him I like airplanes and might be a pilot someday.

And he winked at me...and said "Kid, it's the best job in the world."

I remember that. I remember the Super 80s of SLC, when I was a kid they looked so powerful, so beautiful.  Love

And I also remember watching out the window on a day when there was a bit of rain, and seeing the Super 80 come in through the gray backdrop, and set itself down on the runway.

My earliest aviation memories are with AA, and I've always loved the airline deeply.

I hope in some ways that answers your questions. I'm sure you've had some great experiences with UA, which have made you grow to love it as America's Airline.

Perhaps America's airlien is really the airline that means the most to us all. Big grin

Yes, I hope AA manages to recover from these tragedies. I agree with Aloha, AA is very American. Red, white, and blue scheme, eagle logo, their fleet is nearly all Boeing, and of course, their name, American Airlines!

Yes, actually I think you're right she is the largest now. Before the attacks I think that she was around #2 or #3.

At any rate, Go AA!!

Great Post! Some great pics some of you have posted.
While UAL may still cover more of the world than AA, I agree, all in all, AA is America's Flag Carrier.

They will make it thru these troubled times, just as they have made it thru others in the past. The great addition of TWA and all the greatness of that airline has yet to be fully utilized, and most likely will take a bit longer now. With the international authorities acquired with TW, AA can someday cover the earth (Just like Sherwin-Williams paint).

My first widebody trip in the 70's was on an AA DC-10. The trip was great and I was sold on AA ever since. Yes , UA and others do a great job also, but as someone mentioned above, the do seem to be a bit more focused on the Businessman/woman and our needs. Sometimes you get a crew that recognizes you from a previous trip when you are with your family on a vacation trip, they go out of their way to ensure your family is comfortable.

Several times I took my son, as a small boy, with me across the US to visit his grandparents. Always extra attention to him and Dad travelling with his child.

Many years ago I would fly my elderly Grandmother to Phoenix from Chicago to spend the winter with relatives. After just 1 trip on AA, she was convinced they were the best in the world, and always wanted me to book her on AA. Naturally I was happy to oblige!

My prayers and My heartfelt condolences to the emplyees of AA that lost even more friends this week on 587. Rest assured, God has them in his loving arms.

I've flown AA so many times I can't remember and sice the attack on America my love for them has grown incredilbly. It has been the main carrier to Puerto Rico for over the past 10 years and they have always transported us safely. They are as tough as an eagle and they will come out of this storm as the eagle it is.

I have to say, even after many years of the same livery, AA's is still striking, and instantly identifiable. I especially like the recent Retrojet liveries.

I am sure AA will make it through this difficult time and come out on top. At least, I hope it will!
